It’s that time of year..
We all love the whalesharks but another rarely seen visitor can also occasionally be spotted.. the majestic Pygmy devil ray is partial to the same food as the more famous sharks and if fortunate can appear in numbers as they like to school.
This clip shows one enjoying a feast of krill.
The sea is calm, skies sunny so come join the search as we are out daily 👇

Looking back at a dive on the SS Yongala.
The current was strong—
I was working just to hold my position.
And then this marble ray… just there.
No fight, no rush—
completely at ease with the water.
Down here,
we’re always the visitors.

Have you ever seen a Mobula kuhlii glide through open water?
These elegant rays, often called the shortfin devil ray, move with a quiet power that’s hard to forget once you witness it. With long, wing-like pectoral fins and a sleek silhouette, they seem to fly rather than swim.
This individual was photographed while diving aboard the Pindito in Indonesia, where encounters with pelagic species like this are always a special moment. Mobula rays are fast, curious, and often appear suddenly in the blue before disappearing just as quickly.
Moments like this remind us how much of the ocean’s story is still unfolding beneath the surface.
Have you ever encountered a mobula ray on a dive?

JUST GLIDING ALONG
Being eye to eye with an eagly ray has it's own magical touch. You can see all the details like the cat looking eyes and the unique patter on the back side.

Dancing above the blue 🌊✨
A powerful moment with a group of bentfin devil rays (Mobula thurstoni) moving in perfect sync through the open ocean.
Did you know? These rays are famous for their acrobatic backflip breaches, and while it looks like pure freedom, scientists believe this behavior helps them communicate, remove parasites, and even coordinate group movements. Every leap has a purpose.
Wild, precise, and beautifully connected, the ocean never stops amazing us.
