#DevilsTower #Wyoming #FamilyTravel #USAroadtrip #TravelWithKids
There are places that feel like they belong to another world. Rising 867 feet above the surrounding landscape, Devils Tower in Wyoming became one of the most unforgettable locations in Close Encounters of the Third Kind — and once you’ve seen the movie, it’s almost impossible to look at this place without hearing those five tones. The closer we moved toward it, the stranger and more massive it became. Some places are beautiful. Some places feel important. Devils Tower feels like both. 👽 #DevilsTower #Wyoming #CloseEncountersOfTheThirdKind #CinematicTravel #RoadTripUSA
We were so excited to finally went to visit Devils Tower, WY 🩷 Saw so many beautiful Milky Way shot from there. Unfortunately, the timing wasn’t in our favor (almost full moon and cloudy sky). But it was still a cool experience 🥰🤩💙! Devils Tower is stunning! … … #devilstower #visitwyoming #beautifuldestinations❤️ #nationalmonument #explorenaturelovers

There are many legends around why Wyoming’s Devils Tower has its unique shape. The discussions are usually very serious, but since no one has an absolute explanation as to its formation, some stories tend to drift toward the supernatural. One legend has it that two girls were playing when they were noticed by giant bears. The bears gave chase, and the girls tried to climb to the top of a rock, hoping to be saved. The rock began to rise high in the air, lifting them far away from their attackers to safety, and the bears left claw marks along the side of the mountain as they tried (and failed) to reach them. 📹 by @everchanginghorizon
Please oppose Bear Lodge Rare Earth Project #291093 Public Commenting on is open until 11:59pm MST Friday, August 28th. Rare Element Resources Inc. has submitted a 132 acre open-pit rare earth mine plan operating within Black Hills National Forest at Bull Hill, ~12 miles north of Sundance, WY. The project proposes to develop and supply critical magnet materials for American defense, advanced energy, and high-tech applications including weaponry, robotics, and surveillance systems. These actions are taking place to relocate processing from its current establishments in China to the region of one of the most sacred, naturally magnificent and our First declared national monument, (1906), Mato Tipilia/Bear Lodge/Devils Tower. The associated infrastructure and support facilities will be developed in Sundance, WY. The project also includes reclamation, monitoring, mitigation, closing and will encompass 287 acres of new NFS disturbance with chemical separation occurring at private facilities near Upton. It’s projected to be 22 years of construction to reclamation with a target start date of 2030. The project needs permissions, permits, and licensing subject to USFS, NEPA, EIS review + multiple state & federal regulation approvals. Mato Tipilia is Sacred ceremonial grounds for over two dozen Native American tribes surrounded by quiet pine forests, rolling prairies, and vibrant local towns housing ~10K full-time residents, over 540K visitors annually offering hiking, camping, and world-class climbing. It generates $41 Million in annual local spending and supports hundreds of related jobs in the gateway communities. We know this land is valuable. We know this land is Sacred. We know this land’s best use is continuing for it to be preserved and offering its grandeur through nature, community, recreation, and spirituality. Anonymous comments and those submitted after August 28, 2026 will not provide standing for administrative review. Please take 5 minutes to fight for this sacred site and YOUR Wyoming! It’s National Trails Day! Throw on your hiking boots, grab your trekking poles, and let’s take a walk together! Here at the tower we have five hiking trails that each offer a little something different. With so much variety, you’re sure to find a trail you’ll enjoy! Tower Trail: 1.6 mile loop On this paved trail around the whole base of the Tower you’ll get a closeup view of each side, you’ll even get close enough to touch it! Follow the interpretive signs all along the trail to learn about climbing, Native American prayer cloths, and much more! Red Beds Trail: 2.8 mile loop The longest, most strenuous of our hikes, the Red Beds Trail gives hikers a look at the different types of geology we have here. While you walk amongst the red sandstone, our oldest visible rock layer, you’ll also be able to peek up at the phonolite porphyry that makes up the Tower. Joyner Ridge Trail: 1.5 mile loop Access this trail from Joyner Ridge Road or through a 0.6 mile connector trail from the Red Beds trail. This trail offers a great view of the West face of the Tower and a significant change in elevation. South Side Trail: 0.6 miles This trail has little to no elevation change and takes you through prairie dog town. If you’re looking to see wildlife without having to hike too far this trail is a great option for you! Valley View Trail: 0.6 miles The Valley View Trail takes you along the Belle Fourche River and has little to no elevation change. Want to avoid waiting in the long line of cars driving up the Visitor Center? Put it in park and take a hike instead! By parking at our picnic area and connecting the South Side Trail to the Red Beds Trail you can bypass any traffic. This link-up hike is about 1.5 miles and is considered moderate to strenuous. While your furry friends can’t join you on the trail, they are welcome in our picnic areas, campground, and parking lots. Happy trails! 🥾 Video: Beginning with a dirt trail surrounded by grass and trees, the camera pans to the left to show the Devils Tower monolith peaking through the tree line. The mystery of Devil's Tower Critics say, "If it's a petrified tree, where are the roots?" Well, they may have found them. Wyoming State Parks scientists used imaging and seismic scans and report a root-like system beneath Devils Tower — about 6.4 km deep and 11.2 km across. Tests are underway to confirm it. No wonder Indigenous people called it the Tree of Life. If true, this could rewrite what we know about Earth's history. #devil #devildog #deviltattoo #devilsbridge #wyoming
Not every sunset stops you in your tracks. Some simply remind you how lucky you are to be exactly where you are. When I first came here, it was just another place on the map. Now, it's become one of those places that quietly feels like home. Every evening, the sky paints a different story over Devils Tower, and no matter how many sunsets I watch, I still find myself standing still, taking it all in. Maybe that's what travel is really about. Not just collecting places, but finding the ones that leave a little piece of themselves with you. ❤️🌅 #NationalPark #DevilsTower #SunsetLovers #TravelMoments #ExploreMore

Before Yellowstone. Before Yosemite. Before the Grand Canyon. In 1906, Devils Tower became America’s first National Monument, protected by President Theodore Roosevelt and standing as one of the West’s most recognizable landmarks. More than a century later, we’re lucky enough to call this view our backyard at The Ranch at Devils Tower.
