Negative harmony? **I am not an expert on this, my info is based on Ernst Levy’s writings on negative harmony, and other compilations of this concept I’ve looked into over the years. Keep in mind that my example is for converting chords from a diatonic context (a major or minor key). To convert single pitches, the axis point will be different. There are also other varieties of negative-harmonization. I encourage you to look them up if you’re seeking new ideas for chord progressions. #negativeharmony #chords #harmony #musictheory #scales #practice #piano #music #study #musician #pianist #keys #keyboard

Simple and Effective ii-V Shapes I’ve been spending a lot of time recently going over simple and basic diatonic ii-V shapes with some of my students and introducing slight variations on beat placement of those shapes to get them used to anticipating chord changes and just internalizing the sound of these motifs. This is a pretty useful sequence that should be shed all over the horn for the greatest benefit. Just start the sequence over up or down a half-step to cover all your bases. 😎 Happy shedding! #gv #freechicken #jazz
