Some of you aren’t going to like this and that’s okay. Some of you need to know you are heading down a fascist pipeline. This is why the Principles of Disability Justice are key to disability activism. Modeling tenants like leadership of the most impacted and commitment to cross-disability solidarity are not upheld in these communities. They only wish to complain about how they’re god’s special disabled children and everyone else is faking. They’re never going to be able to find justice in their own actions if they keep pitying themselves, only falling deeper down the fascist pipeline. #disability #disabilityjustice
Disability Justice is both social and theological. The latest episode of the Community Garden podcast with @connie.chen , The Body Is Not the Problem: Theology and Systemic Inclusion, has dropped! This episode will hit the Patreon and paid newsletter subscribers first today and Spotify this weekend! ❤️ In this episode of The Community Garden, I’m joined by Connie Chen—an MDiv-educated theologian from Harvard, artist, and disability rights activist—for a conversation about what access, embodiment, and dignity reveal about the kind of communities we’re actually called to build. In this episode we think both about disability justice in our theologies and social structures like the workplace #religion #policy #politics #theology #justice
DJ principle 3: an anti-capitalist politic Capitalism measures worth by productivity. Disability justice reminds us that human value is not earned through labor. We are worthy because we exist. Description: Bethany, a white femme with brown, greying hair resting on her shoulders, is talking on her little mic while seated in a brown leather chair. Behind her is a window revealing a sunshine-filled, cold day. She’s wearing a simple black-on-black outfit: black jeans and a black sleeveless top. Bethany pairs her look with red lips, sparkly sequin high-tops, an antique silver necklace that feels like a crown featuring a lapis lazuli stone, and some silver earrings. The lapis lazuli necklace was a holiday gift from her wife, Sara. Bethany's tiny chocolate chihuahua wanders into the scene and out. A title overlays the beginning of the video reading: “Disability Justice Principle 3: disability justice is a class issue, capitalism is a disability justice issue.” #DisabilityJustice #AntiCapitalist #AntiCapitalism
to all my Disabled Queers, i love you ♿️🏳️‍🌈 . 🎥 description: Andrea standing outside in front of some trees and cars. She’s wearing an all black outfit and has a white bag on her shoulder. Her mask is hanging off of one ear and she’s looking at the camera while drinking an iced Matcha. text on screen reads “♿️🏳️‍🌈 I wish every Disabled Queer a happy Pride Month ♿️🏳️‍🌈 may this month be filled with accessibility, community care, non-disabled queers being quite and listening to us, and a whole lot of Disability Justice in the form of masking, a Free Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Puerto Rico, Guam, Hawaii etc.” . #disabledlatina #happypride #pridemonth #disabledqueer #altlatina
Disability justice is immigrant justice. Lately, there has been a rise in discussions and policies that promote eugenics and target disabled people across the country. The Trump administration is slowly removing civil rights protections, cutting accessibility programs, and making benefits and care harder to get. Long delays, denials, and paperwork confusion are the policy choices that cause real suffering. The unprecedented federal funding that is expanding immigration detention will impact disabled migrants who are too often overlooked, facing barriers that limit access to resources, support, and full participation in the community, and those same barriers make them more vulnerable to detention, neglect, and deportation. To learn more, follow @newdisabledsouth and @freerodneytaylor, who are advocating for disabled immigrants in immigration detention.
Disability Justice argues strongly that society should see people with disabilities as inherently valuable. While this conclusion is true and correct, it can ONLY be justified by the existence of the God of the Bible, Who specifically created humanity to bear His image. If you take God out of your worldview, then there is no objective way to define or determine inherent value of anyone. If society only values according to productivity, then that is not the fault of capitalism, but rather it is the fault of rejecting God, while expecting His design and order to stand without Him. Apart from God, we can do nothing. #christian #disabled #imageofgod #humanity #humanrights
