Yesterday I posted an sk2po and was asked (twice!) whether it could be considered a left-leaning double decrease. Personally, I’d describe it as a center-left decrease, or a left-leaning centered decrease, the true left-leaning double decrease being the SSSK, just as the true right-leaning double decrease is the k3tog. There are so many mnemonic devices out there to remember the difference between these increases but none of them have ever helped me. I couldn’t ever remember until I understood WHY they were called right and left leaning increases and how to know which one you were doing as you were doing it.

I’m working top-down and using three k2tog decreases to shape the front next to the sleeve cap. Little decreases like this make the front panel slightly narrower than the back, closer to how a set-in sleeve and a real body actually behave. It’s a tiny move in the knitting, but over just a few rows it quietly changes the whole silhouette. #knittingtechnique #topdownknitting #sweaterknitting #knitterswhoknit #knittingconstruction
