Comment CLOSET and we’ll send you all the links.
One of the biggest mistakes we see is buying dorm organizers before knowing what the closet actually needs.
These are the organizers we’ve used over the years because they solve different problems in different dorms.
No single closet needs all 11. But chances are a few of these will make move-in day and everyday life a whole lot easier.

Yes I design for boys too. And no it doesn’t have to look like a cave.
Here’s why this setup works:
Color balance - Dark navy paired with lighter grey keeps it coordinated without being a black hole. Most guy dorms go too dark. This one has depth AND light.
Layered lighting - Desk lamp, bedside lamp and LED sign (not just for girls!!). Skip the harsh overhead fluorescent nightmare. This makes a HUGE difference.
Smart storage - Two types of under-bed storage that fit perfectly under a raised bed, storage ottoman, and more in the free shopping links. Function meets clean lines.

Most dorms don’t look cohesive—and it doesn’t have to do with money ⬇️
Cohesion comes from repetition and structure — not just colors!
Here are the real tricks that separate perfect forms apart:
1. Repeat the SAME materials 3+ times
Pick 1–2 materials and subtly repeat them across the room.
Examples:
• Gold → lamp base, picture frames, mirror trim
• Acrylic → desk organizer, makeup holder, wall shelf
• Wood → nightstand, frames, tray
👉 This is what designers do. Repetition = intentional.
2. Lock in a “base + accent” color rule
Follow this formula:
• 60% base color (white, beige, light gray)
• 30% main color (pink, blue, green)
• 10% accent (gold, black, etc.)
👉 If everything is “important,” nothing stands out. This keeps it clean.
3. Match your “visual weight”
If one side of your room is heavy (bed + pillows + blanket),
balance it with something on the other side:
• Desk hutch
• Wall grid
• Mirror
👉 Cohesive rooms feel balanced, not lopsided.
4. Keep shapes consistent (this is underrated)
Pick a “shape language” and stick to it:
• Soft/curved → round mirror, wavy rug, arched decor
• Clean/square → grid wall, rectangular frames, sharp edges
👉 Mixing too many shapes = visual chaos (even if colors match).
5. Create mini “zones” instead of decorating randomly
Group items with purpose:
• Bed = comfort zone
• Desk = productivity zone
• Corner = getting ready zone
👉 When everything has a purpose, the room feels put together automatically.
The mindset shift:
A cohesive dorm isn’t about buying better stuff.
It’s about making everything feel like it belongs together.

Sometimes, dorms have vacuums available to borrow, but we often hear from students that they are clunky, old, and often just plain gross. 🤢
Both of my sons brought vacuums, and their hallmates were regularly asking to borrow them. I was pleasantly surprised!
We typically recommend only corded vacuums, since we’re not confident college students will return them to their chargers!
These are the 4 vacuum cleaners that we recommend for college and why. And by the way, each one is currently at its buy price.
Bissell 3-in-1: Great price for light jobs. This one doesn’t have a beater brush, so it isn’t great for long hair and rugs.
Bissell CleanView: Best entry-level vacuum with a beater brush. The downside is that it is a little bigger.
Shark Rocket: The best of the 2 above. A 3-in-1 that is also lightweight.
Eureka Cordless: For students moving into an apartment, a cordless model may be more appropriate and have a better spot to place the charger.

🏠 College dorms ranked S to F, from 5-star resort to actual dungeon.
The dorm you live in for the next 4 years can completely change college, and these rankings are full of surprises. A few of these campuses look like luxury resorts online, and one name everyone dreams about lands shockingly low.
Comment DORMS and I’ll send you the full best-to-worst dorm list, including the resort dorms and dungeon-tier schools that never made the video.
Save this before you commit to a school.
1️⃣ USC and Stanford feel like luxury resorts, not dorms
2️⃣ NYU gives you a high-rise apartment in the middle of Manhattan
