I was talking to my friend today (bonus for me she also does my hair) about all the crap that comes with illness.
Because of course, when someone knows you their whole life (s/o @hairbynichole_b_ , I’ve known her since PRESCHOOL) it’s kinda depressing to see the change and to hear about the hardship.
I was telling her that yes, so much of it sucks.
So much is so unfair and stupid and dumb and $hitty.
But sometimes you get a couple really cool lessons that you probably wouldn’t have had without illness.
And for me, one of the BIGGEST ones is that all these things that I was SO STRESSED about before… they just don’t matter now.
They’re not even a thought.
Because none of that tiny, socialite, popularity game or career ladder climb or how my body looks or any of that crap matters anymore.
You know what does matter?
My pain levels.
Whether or not I can participate in activities with my family or friends.
If I have the energy to still do one of the (new bc we adjust) hobbies I love.
Attending my own life.
Being present.
Showing people how much I love them.
Realllllly appreciating good health days.
And if I never got sick, I’d probably still be in the weird little head battle of whether or not so and so thinks I’m cool.
So yeah.
On the bright side, or whatever they say.

My ankles didn’t seem to get the memo. Can you tell them that?
I’m not the only disabled person that dances. Lol.
[Video: A Latina with dark, curly hair with a peekaboo blonde, dancing with her seat cane in different clips. The text says, “Me when I don’t understand dynamic disabilities”]

She’s a marvel. A mystery. A disabled woman. What can’t she do? (I can answer that but it’s a very long list actually.)

After this, I caught a plane and couldnt lift my bag to the top storage - almost dropped it on people because my muscles gave out

What does Disability look like to you? 🤔
❗️❗️❗️TRICK QUESTION ❗️❗️❗️
Because there is no ONE disabled “look” 🙅🏻♀️
Disability can look different on every person, even if they have the same conditions!
Disability can change day by day or even hour by hour!
We all experience disability differently, and that’s OKAY!
It’s time we switch the narrative and showcase just how dynamic disability can be ❤️

using mobility aids is so daunting sometimes, especially since those awful articles came out. but my quality of life improves when i have the support of mobility aids so why not use them? especially when they can look so cool!!!!

My symptoms fluctuate - but are still very real
My body is extremely good at being ‘fine’ one minute and then awful the next. And vice versa. It doesn’t mean that we’re faking it. It doesn’t mean that we’re exaggerating it.
Having a dynamic disability means that you have to understand that it is unpredictable. And that’s not always easy for a lot of people to get their heads round.
I can be dancing and singing to Disney songs in the kitchen one minute, and curled up unable to physically move the next.
I try to make the most of the good times - before my body tells me to stop. But the fluctuating nature of my symptoms has made it difficult for others to understand.
Please be mindful ❤️

Also add to this list: exercise of any kind, washing my own hair, standing for more than 10 minutes, taking a shower without resting after, being in the sun.
It's the start of my show season!!!! There's always SOMETHING random going on in those bathrooms lol. Sometimes it's funny when I'm not in a crisis. 99.9% of the time people are super accommodating and sweet whenever I knock or ask for an ADA stall tho!!! 😭🥺
☆
Also for context, the creator at the beginning of the video said disabled people should just use their CUSTOM bathrooms (god I wish) at home if they're so worried about having access to a bathroom. It makes me laugh when people think disabled people just have all the resources they need all the time. 😭💀🫠🫥🥴
Good morning! My name is Pamina and I’m in my pupfluencer era, so come spend a day in the life with me and myPurina! #ad #myPurinaPartner
First up for any girl is her morning routine, I start mine with a freezing, I mean refreshing potty walk. Mom scrolls #myPurina in their train and play videos and decides for me to have my breakfast doing a digbox activity. Staying mentally stimulated all day not only burns energy, but helps me grow into a super smart service dog. Now it’s time for me to make Cienna’s breakfast. This is me doing some big helpful service dog stuff, closing the cabinets.
After breakfast my girl and I review my basic obedience using the training videos from myPurina. It’s totally easy, I literally just lay down, sit, come, and get sooo many treats! While she works, I keep my service dog nose sharp using the scent games from myPurina.
My big service dog brother, Piper and I finish the day playing hide and seek, one of our favorite play sessions from myPurina! We actually use this game to learn a service dog task to find Cienna, family members by name, or help. Download the myPurina app today to become the bestest boy and girl, just like us! See you later! #myPurinaPet @purina
This is my simple response to Kathleen Stock’s recent article, “Why are young women using walking sticks?”
My cane is not a social contagion.
It is not a prop, a trend, or proof that the internet convinced me I am sick. It is a tool that helps me stay active, reduce pain, conserve energy, and continue showing up in a body that does not function the same way every day. A body affected by domestic violence and chronic illness.
Some days I need it. Some days I don’t. That is dynamic disability, not deception.
Seeing more young women use mobility aids does not mean disability has become fashionable. Maybe diagnoses are improving. Maybe people have better access to support. Maybe disabled women are finally refusing to hide themselves just to make others comfortable.
Young does not mean healthy. Looking well is not medical evidence. Standing from a wheelchair does not make someone a fraud.
My cane is not the problem.
The problem is a culture that would rather accuse sick women of following a trend than ask why so many have gone unsupported for so long.
Visibility is not contagion. It is what happens when we stop suffering silently.
