I unboxed a rare PS1 that I won at @ebay Live during #NYFW.
The auction was called Endless Runway: The Archive — 150 archival American pieces, curated by Carlos Nazario, hosted by @jennalyons, with houses contributing straight out of their own archives and all proceeds going to @cfda. Mine came out of @proenzaschouler’s.
It’s the Harmony Korine collaboration from 2019, made for the PS1’s tenth anniversary. His paintings, shown at Gagosian in 2014, printed onto the bag. Four hundred made per style, each one numbered.
Here’s the part I can’t stop thinking about. Proenza has just relaunched the PS1 as the Walker, redesigned by Rachel Scott with Reed Krakoff. Asked why she didn’t simply reissue the original, Scott said: “I don’t want to feel imprisoned by these ideas. Also, I just don’t think it’s responsible. The old version is available on @therealreal. You want to be introducing something new.”
The designer bringing the bag back told you to go buy the old one secondhand.
When it launched in 2008, Lazaro Hernandez called it “the anti-It-bag.” No logo. No hardware. Vogue said you identified it by the moiré lining and the knot in the strap. Mary-Kate Olsen had one in python. Serena carried it on Gossip Girl.
Harmony Korine also wrote Kids, which my husband made me watch when we first got together. So this one was never really about the bag.
The Walker arrives in January, $1,650 to $2,590. This one was $220, and the total went to a great cause 🖤
