💢 Coyote Pupping Season ⚡
While Springtime brings adorable babies from many animal species, it also brings protective parents eager to defend their young!
For Coyotes, this means being extra cautious of people and dogs coming too close to their den and pups.
You can keep yourself, your family and your pets safe by understanding coyote behavior and remembering this:
1. Cases of human injury by coyotes are extremely rare! Coyotes are NOT fundamentally dangerous or aggressive, but they are defensive of their pups and dens.
2. Coyotes instinctively view other canines like wolves as threats - this includes domestic dogs. Keeping dogs close and leashed during pupping season prevents unecessary interaction.
3. If you encounter a coyote, keep your distance and do not ever attempt to feed or pet a coyote!
4. A coyote following behind you may be "escorting" you away from its den. Keep walking away calmly, maintain eye contact, and do not run.
Coyotes are a beneficial native species and are part of our natural ecosystem. We can safely share space!
*To report an aggressive encounter or a coyote in need of help in the East Bay Regional Parks, contact Public Safety at (510) 881-1833.

We LOVE that @outdoorwiseliving found our local 680 hidden hill zoo!
Repost: A camel, a Zebra, & a hike oh my ⬇️
If you’ve ever driven on I-680 between Walnut Creek and Danville you’ve probably done a double take: is that a camel? Are those llamas? A zebra?!?
It’s time to solve this mystery with an actually super fun lesser known trail guide in Danville. Be sure to follow @outdoorwiseliving for more trail CA discovery:
🥾 Trail: Las Trampas to Mount Diablo Regional Trail, Danville.
📅 Best Times to visit: Now. Wildflowers are present!
🅿️ Fee: Free. Park underneath 680 by Hap Magee Park, right at the trail head.
📏 Difficulty: Easy but steep. 1.5-3 miles.
🏔️ Elevation: ~350 ft
👧👦 Friendly: Great for kids! Bring binoculars. See tips below
♿️: Not ADA accessible.
Facilities 🚽: at Hap Magee Ranch park less than 1/2 mile away.
🦮 Friendly: Dogs on leash
📕 Story: A private company leases some of the land and brings exotic animals. They help maintain the land by keeping the grass trimmed.
ℹ️: Ticks are in the tall grass so stay where the trail is clear. Walk up the hill about 1/3 of the mile and look for a small entry to the top of the hill on your right. There’s the best place to view animals from up there while avoiding the really tall grass. The trail continues with a great bench to look at Mount Diablo. A big thank you to @c_ellis34 for finding this trail 🙏
🗑️ Remember, leave no trace, respect nature.

Lot's of things to see at castleridge trail, but Don Castro is also epic and is also in the book... I'll be hosting a guided walk there this Sunday if you're interested!
Who loves secret spots?!
I searched for this spot three times before finally finding the swing.
Which is quite literally the perfect place to take the sunset in and/or for the golden hour.
There are enough clues for you to find this without my help, but for my blog subscribers, I have a full trail map for you to find this treasure on my blog (link in bio).
Here’s what you need to know about this swing:
⚠️: The condition of the swing is not guaranteed and from time to time it gets cut down. Exercise caution if you plan to use it
‼️: Tall grass in this area - be sure to wear long pants to avoid ticks. Watch for turkeys, snakes and deer
👧: I find this one kid friendly, but they will need a boost to get up on the swing
🐻: Go Bears and good luck finding this one! Again, if you don’t want to use my blog that does the hard work for you, it’s not the hardest one to go find on your own
🥾: It’s less than a mile hike with about 300 feet of elevation.
Extra location hint: Did I say go 🐻s? 🏈 🏟️ 🙌

Sunshine, conversation, and community! ☀️ So grateful for a Saturday morning spent outside, walking and enjoying the fresh air with EBRPD Director Collin Coffy, Bay Point MAC Members, and community members at Waterbird Regional Preserve in Martinez!
It was especially meaningful to have my boys there, learning about the importance of preserving these beautiful spaces for their generation! Thank you, @ebrpd

If you were following me two months ago, you saw my reel about one of Pleasanton’s best kept secrets: Tehan Falls.
Back behind Pleasanton’s Stoneridge mall lies a hidden and magnificent ~80 ft waterfall that flows seasonally (blog post link in bio).
However, after I called East Bay Regional Park District, we determined it was in their Land Bank, and I subsequently took the reel down and shared my story with you about why I took it down.
Its a super confusing area because there are multiple signs that are posted that say “The trail is on private property but open to the public”
Just adjacent to Tehan falls is another hidden gem that I CAN share with all of you and is a part of the city of Pleasanton trails (not East Bay Regional Parks).
Your guide to explore here:
🥾: Lying-Stump & The Preserve Trail, Pleasanton.
🅿️: Free at trailhead, across from Moller Park
Best times to visit: Trail opened April 1st and will close September 30. Open daily 8am - 6pm
🐕: Dogs must be on leash
♿️ : Not ADA accessible
🧒 👧: Very kid friendly although much elevation if you continue up the trail towards Moller Ranch Trails
💡: See my Substack blog post for a custom trail map to this place (link in bio); otherwise search “the preserve trail” in all trails and you’ll need to search around for the tree swing spot. It can be muddy and steep in areas so bring a change of shoes and your hiking poles.
🚽: at trailhead
🗑️: As always, leave no trace.
Woohoo!! I did it! And I don't mean just the challenging hike-- I am slowly learning how to do more video stuff and I'm pretty happy with this 📽 I hope this can be helpful to others who are looking to experience the park. I will definitely be making more educational-focused videos in the future 💚

Ive done 100s and this is my all time fav. In fact, I’ve done 59 hikes in California so far just in 2024. Amongst all of these, this one ranks as my all time favorite!
Side note: I’ve launched a substack platform for group hikes, content creation tips, and more (including the secret waterfall featured) - link in bio!
I’ve hiked this loop at least 6 times in 18 years living in the Bay and each time I find a new secret offshoot or something special.
There are multiple routes and loops to do here, so regardless of your skill level, if you only had time for one hike in California, it really needs to be this one.
Your trail guide:
🥾 Trail: Steep Ravine, Dipsea and Matt Davis Trail
🅿️ Fee: Free either at Stinson beach or on Belvedere Ave (behind the fire station). GET THERE EARLY
📅 Best times to visit: Now with waterfalls flowing but this is a great year-round spot
📏 Difficulty: moderate. 7.5-8 miles depending on which route you go
🏔️ Elevation: 1770 ft for this route
🤫 spot: There’s a hidden waterfall accessible from this trail. Join my substack (link in bio) for a custom guide to get there.
👧 👦 friendly: Worth pushing the kids a little. Bring sugar, snacks, and other motivating tactics. Use bus 61 from Stinson Beach to Pantoll station to skip elevation (https://marintransit.org/routes/61)
♿️: Not ADA accessible
🚽 facilities: at Stinson Beach
🦮 Friendly: No dogs, although they are allowed at nearby Stinson beach (not the NPS portion)
🕶️ Shade: Combo of fully shaded and exposed spots
🛂 Tips: I recommend getting to the trail head before 9. There’s some amazing views of the Pacific Ocean via Matt Davis trail. Then after, there’s some spots you can view the golden gate. Use Pantoll Campground as a lunch/break spot or finish your route at Stinson beach. This trail has a taste of everything: redwoods, waterfalls, views, beach, and more - it really doesn’t get any better than this!
🗑️: always remember to leave no trace and explore responsibly!

My neighborhood in the East Bay has miles of dog friendly open space, I learned to hike, climb trees, trail run , muddying among Redwoods , native plants , ladybugs , single track trails , happy dogs and Eucalyptus trees
It was a treat to be able to walk there from my home and how special it was going back today, you can see it in my face #jaggersbucketlist
