Dear Dr [Name], I hope you are doing well. My name is Florence, and I am a final year UK medical student at X Medical School. As part of my final year, I have the opportunity to undertake a four-week medical elective in April 2026, which can be in a clinical or non-clinical setting. As a U.S. citizen, I am eager to use this elective to return and explore my career interests. I have a strong interest in psychiatry research and believe my medical background, problem-solving skills, and analytical mindset would make me a great fit to help your team (volunteer). I would love the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to meaningful projects. I was involved in adhd research at NYU for 5 months and have two publications with Acaap. Working with Dr X and Dr X. I know this is a bit of an unconventional ask, but I thought I’d take a shot and see if there’s any way you could create this opportunity for me in April 2026. I would love the chance to learn from your team, and I’m confident I could bring value in return. I’ve attached my CV and my medical school’s approval letter for your reference. Please let me know if there’s any possibility to make this happen! Looking forward to your thoughts. #MEDICINE #DOCTOR #MEDICALSTUDENT #elective

Seeing the trend from the last 2 years, we are seeing people reporting much decreased expenditure during the match season. I always try to educate you guys, try to save money where it makes sense. Don’t try to over-restrict yourself and compromise your experience in the process. To explain, before covid, interviewees had to visit each program individually, costing them a lot of money in travelling. Thankfully, that is almost unheard of now since we transitioned to online interviews. To make things even better, ERAS then introduced program signalling (e.g. 15 for Internal Medicine), which means there’s a high likelihood of getting interviews only from the programs you signal (although there can be some outside of signals as well). So if you are applying into about 30 programs as opposed to ~150-200 programs before, you can expect to save a handsome amount of money! The most important thing here is to get the right guidance as to which programs you need to signal, and how many programs do you need to apply into as per your CV. #usmle #img #elective #medstudent #residency
