The @amtrak Empire Builder - some love it, some don’t think it’s as scenic as it should be. Here is a recap of my experience doing the Milwaukee to Portland route solo! ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Some things to note:⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🏔️ It’s 46 hours long and left in the evening so really it feels shorter in my opinion⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🇺🇸 States on this route include Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, Washington, North Dakota and Idaho⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🌊 If you wanted to, you could take the 35-hour Coast Starlight (which I’ve covered previously) to LA from Portland or Seattle after riding this one⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ For a chill ride this is perfect ✨⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ #trainstagram #traintravelling #traintrip #amtrak #solotravel #traintravel #amtrakgram #empirebuilder

🚂Did you know that you can take a train across the US? (Save for later!) 🇺🇸 The train takes 3 days to get across the country, with many stops in cities and towns along the way. In 2020 I booked a one way ticket from Rochester, NY to Seattle, WA. I just booked a seat but I had the row to myself to lay down during the night. It certainly was not the most comfortable journey, however there are private cabins with beds available for purchase as well. It was a very unique experience to be able to see the country from one seat. I was able to see new states and parts of the country I had never seen before. The journey goes through 11 states including: New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, and Washington. There is food and water available, personally I would recommend only consuming bottled water and pre packaged food (pack your own). There is also a viewing cart where there are seats faced out, for better scenery viewing. There is not much to do on the train besides chat with other passengers and take in the views. So I would recommend coming prepared with downloaded movies and shows on your device, a good book, and or lots of patience for some of the more boring parts of the country.
