Went to buy a packet of lemons today. I normally buy the organic ones but didn’t have time to get to the supermarket I normally buy from, so stopped at a different supermarket. I always check labels to see where they are grown and how far they have come. As I try to buy local where ever I can. I was so shocked to see a list of chemicals and E numbers on natural lemons! This world is so f**king toxic. Now they messing with lemons! They weren’t even waxed. As I was trying to justify the chemicals as maybe it was waxed? I’ve been thinking about this all day and I’m so disturbed! #toxiclemons #lemons #enumbers #poison #toxins
I'm grateful for my cousin Leah for telling me about Avataq. Having this information helps me be able to identify other family members. My grandfather has a huge family that he was stolen from. I can't imagine how he felt not being able to live back home due to lack of medical resources that still exist today! #inuit #enumbers #lastname #familytree #truthandreconciliation
⬇️ E100–E199: Food Color Additives🎨 Curious about the colors in your food? Here’s what vegetarians need to know about E Numbers that are MOST COMMONLY used: 🔶 E100 - Curcumin Source: Derived from turmeric. Uses: Common in curry powders, margarine, and more. Vegetarian Status: Fully vegetarian and adds a natural yellow hue 🔴 E120 - Cochineal (Carmine) Source: Made from crushed cochineal insects. Some food additives are allowed in the USA, but not in other countries, explains Dr Nynke Kramer, Associate Professor of Toxicology at Wageningen University & Research. But what’s the difference between the systems in the EU and in the US? Did you know that many of the E-numbers hidden in our food have been linked to potential health risks? From artificial colors to preservatives, these additives are designed to make food look and taste better, but some studies suggest they could be contributing to issues like digestive problems, allergies, and even behavioral changes. It’s surprising how many of these additives are present in everyday snacks and drinks, often with side effects we might not notice right away. Our bodies aren’t built to handle synthetic chemicals long-term, and repeated exposure to certain E-numbers could affect our well-being over time. By learning more about these additives and choosing natural options whenever possible, we can make more informed choices about what we’re putting into our bodies. So, next time you’re grocery shopping, take a moment to read the label. In the United States, E-numbers don’t have the same label as they do in Europe, where each additive is given a specific E code (like E100s for colors or E200s for preservatives). However, the additives themselves are similar and are usually referred to by their names or categories rather than numbers. #food #healthyfood #realfood #enumbers #foodadditives #nochemicals #health #preservatives #ingredients

E-Numbers: What’s Really in Your Food? E-Numbers are food additives approved by the European Union for use in food production. Each category serves a different purpose: 🔹 E100-E199 – Food Colors 🔹 E200-E299 – Preservatives 🔹 E300-E399 – Antioxidants, Phosphates & Complexing Agents 🔹 E400-E499 – Thickeners, Gelling Agents, Phosphates, Humectants, Emulsifiers 🔹 E500-E599 – Salts & Related Compounds 🧂 🔹 E600-E699 – Flavor Enhancers 🔹 E700-E899 – (Not used for food additives, used for feed additives) 🔹 E900-E999 – Surface Coating Agents, Gases, Sweeteners 🔹 E1000-E1399 – Miscellaneous Additives 🔹 E1400-E1499 – Starch Derivatives Did you know? Some E-Numbers may contain hidden animal-derived or non-halal ingredients. Always check labels carefully! Understanding E-Numbers helps you make informed food choices. The very first additives I gave up were emulsifiers. Once I started checking labels, I realised that there are so many food products that contain emulsifiers, including breads, chocolate, ice cream, plant-based milks and even 'healthy' foods. Emulsifiers are used to blend ingredients like oil and water, but growing research suggests they could negatively affect our gut health by disrupting the microbiome and increasing inflammation. I recently listened to a great ZOE podcast episode with Dr. Federica Amati, which is available here: https://zoe.com/learn/emulsifiers-with-dr-federica-amati #removingupf #reducingupf #additives #enumbers #emulsifiers #chooserealfood #Ultraprocessed #upffree
🦄 Unicorn Birthday cake, minus the crap 🦄 Every birthday I try to make a big effort for my children’s birthday cakes and every year I try my best to reduce the E numbers, additives or gums in the ingredients I need to use. These really are the only 3 times in the year where I bake something with refined sugar in for my children. (I’m not saying they don’t ever have it, far from it, but I don’t bake them something with it usually). But birthday cakes and the children’s incredible ideas for what they want are really hard to do with more natural ingredients. However, this year, I’m seriously pleased with myself 🤩 🦄 Rather than fondant icing to cover the cake, I made a meringue buttercream. Yes it has sugar but no artificial ingredients insight. 🦄 I used @sevenhillswholefoods pitaya powder in different quantities to make different shades of pink. 🦄 I found a gold powder made from Mica and of food grade standard. 🦄 I bought the gold and pink ‘balloons’ to add in to jazz it up The horn and the ears are made from fondant icing but we won’t eat them. Yes it’s still cake and yes it’s till laced with dairy, gluten and refined sugar but least I can rest easy knowing that all ingredients are as best as they could be and there’s no E Numbers to send my children wild hiding in there. #enumbers #additives #gums #nonasties #unicornbirthdaycake #birthdaycake #cake #birthday #upffree
