The purest Lotus ever?
“Handles like a Lotus” is a pretty common phrase amongst car journos and armchair enthusiasts alike.
With this S1 Exige, that phrase couldn’t be more fitting. It’s totally alive to drive, even in its “basic” guise. However add all these additional elements of this incredibly rare (I’m not sure exactly how rare because there aren’t any official figures) VHPD model - and this might be my favourite Lotus ever built.
Steering that isn’t just “talking” to you - it chews your fecking ear off. A raspy and zippy little 4 cylinder, coupled with a short direct manual box - what a thing this is.
I’m not sure there’s a 4 wheels machin that could bring a person more joy and excitement fizzing down a British B Road…maybe a Tuthill 911k…but that’s near enough a million quid…
What a thing. But is it the best Lotus ever made? ⬇️

Oops. Vibin in Lotus Exige 380 Cup of @mazdamxr when it suddenly started to rain. Running on Cup 2 semi slicks, which I found out them to be 5 years old, after our lap. Regardless, Lotus is always a W. Also, this shows the effect of rain on the grip levels. It take a tiny bit until there is none, once there is enough water on the surface and the tyres are cooled down. But it's of course up to you if you want to play with the grip levels.
