where discipline is normal, hard work is expected, and “good enough” doesn’t exist.
Late nights in the lab, endless experiments, constant revisions…
but that’s exactly where you learn what real research looks like.
Now whenever someone asks about experience,
I just smile and say: “Zhang et al.”

The research ecosystem is heavily shaped by the culture of “publish or perish”, where output often seems to matter more than inquiry itself.
Despite this relentless pressure, young and emerging scientists continue to move forward. They invest months, sometimes years, into developing what they believe is an original idea, only to discover that a similar study was published years ago in a high-impact journal and has accumulated hundreds of citations.
It makes you question everything!
Is my originality or authenticity fading?

Maybe it’s not a lack of ability.
