You feel like you only have two choices:
• kick them out
• or tolerate the chaos
You’ve tried to set boundaries- but when it comes down to it - you cave.
If I were the parent of an addicted child living in my house, I would do three things immediately:
1. Make the house a recovery environment.
No drugs. No alcohol. No chaos. Period.
2. Stop negotiating.
Addiction will promise anything to stay comfortable.
Words mean nothing. Only behavior matters.
3. Make treatment the path to privilege.
The door to recovery is always open — but the door to comfort without recovery is closed.
You can love your child deeply and refuse to support their addiction…without abandoning them.
If you’re trying to lead your family through addiction and every time you set a boundary they run right through it…it’s probably because they learned they can.
This isn’t about loving them harder - it’s about gaining a new skillset. A way to speak to addiction with confidence instead of fear and chaos.

For 3 years, this 12-year-old girl’s hair was matted. While I understand embarrassment, as a parent, accountability matters. Avoiding it only made things worse. Thankfully, her aunt and grandmother stepped in and got her the help she needed, and one or both stayed each day to support her.
In just 3 days, I restored her hair. I gave her some tips for her hair and poured love into her. #AccountabilityMatters #ItTakesAVillage
Grateful to welcome my son’s would-be mom-in-law, who stood by us on one of the toughest days—my father’s surgery day. 🙏
In difficult times, relationships aren’t just formed… they are felt. 💫

Big families and the welfare state: Do they work? Yes, some do. Wives often work while men study Torah. Synagogues are everywhere. #FamilySupport #CommunityLife
Do they work? Yes. But do the people who live here also work? Many business owners and Torah students' wives work while their husbands study. Synagogues on every corner facilitate this. #CommunityLife #WorkLifeBalance #TorahStudy #FamilySupport #JewishCommunity #SynagogueLife #ModernTradition
Johnny Gill Says Losing our mom was devastating, but seeing my brother adrift was a different kind of pain. He'd devoted himself to her care. I told him it was time for a new chapter, and brought him to LA to work. Seeing his spirit lift, his smile return, made me know he'd be okay. #JohnnyGill #willied #williedlive #fblifestyle #GriefJourney #BrotherlyLove #FindingYourself #SupportSystem #MovingForward #FamilySupport
Sometimes hope shows up when you’re not even looking for it.
In this testimonial, a family member stumbled across LifeWorks Wellness Center while scrolling online—without even searching for a doctor. One phone call led to a simple but powerful answer: “Yes, of course. We can help.” For a 15-year-old and her family, that moment changed everything.
What followed was relief, excitement, and the feeling that someone was finally willing to step in and care. When you’re young, scared, and searching for answers, being told “we’ve got you” can mean the world—not just to the patient, but to the entire family.
Stories like this remind us that healing journeys often begin unexpectedly—but always with someone willing to listen.
