The Lotha Hoho (LH) on Wednesday, January 21, conducted a spot inspection of the ongoing Nagaland Foothill Road construction within Baghty Division under Wokha district.
Noting delays in the progress of work in Wokha district, the inspection team was led by members of the Lotha Hoho and accompanied by representatives from the Lotha Lower Range Public Organisation (LLRPO), Ralan Area Lotha Hoho (RALH), Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC), JE PWD (R&B), contractors of the five bridges along the 38.6 km stretch, and members of the Agrive Villagers Forum–Champang Merapani Area.
Although the stipulated work period had expired on December 8, 2025, the Lotha Hoho learned during the inspection that the contractor and the PWD (R&B) department had received a three-month extension to complete the project.
At a meeting held in Hayiyan village, representatives of the five bridge construction firms stated that their works were completed but they were awaiting steel structures to be supplied by the PWD (R&B). They assured that once the required materials were handed over, the bridges would be completed and delivered without delay. It was further learned that the materials are expected to be provided to the contractors next week.
Following the inspection, members of the Lotha Hoho expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work. They appealed to the contractors to put in extra effort and ensure completion within the extended timeframe, stressing that the onset of the monsoon season would otherwise hinder progress. The Hoho also urged the contractors to strictly adhere to the specifications outlined in the Detailed Project Report (DPR), emphasizing that the project is vital for the welfare and interests of the people.
Lotha Hoho further urged the department to expedite in starting the second phase of Nagaland Foothill Road, which has been renamed as the Trans-Nagaland Expressway—also commonly known as the People’s Road—at the earliest.
