From struggling in calculus to graduating in civil engineering—and passing the FE exam. This is Adam’s story. 🎓 When Adam started working with me, he was getting calculus scores in the 40s and 50s. He needed a way to approach problems that he could understand, practice, and eventually use on his own. We worked on building that method. Recognize the structure. Choose the method. Practice the steps until you can explain what you’re doing. In this video, Adam describes how rewriting solutions and practicing deliberately helped him build confidence. He reports earning “pretty much A’s” in the courses where he applied the method. One of my favorite parts? He eventually needed less help because he had learned how to approach the problems independently. Adam graduated from Stony Brook University in civil engineering with a 3.6 GPA. Later, while working long night shifts, he applied the same approach to preparing for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam—and passed. Adam put in the work. He earned those accomplishments. I’m proud to have helped him develop skills he could carry forward. If you’re struggling with Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Differential Equations, or higher mathematics, your current grade does not have to define what comes next. 📩 DM me “METHOD” with your course and university, and we can discuss where to start. Let’s cram for the FE Exam (I couldn’t post the 4min long form version🤷🏻‍♂️) #engineeringlife #engineeringstudent #stem #feexamprep
Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam is a huge step toward becoming a licensed professional engineer. Here are THREE of the best tips to help you effectively prepare: 📚Understand the Exam Format & Content - the FE exam typically includes a broad range of engineering topics, including mathematics, ethics, and specific engineering principles related to your specific discipline. Reviewing the exam specifications and reference materials provided by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) will give you a clear understanding of what to expect. Make sure to focus on the topics that are most heavily weighted and practice solving problems that mirror the style and difficulty of those on the exam. 📚Create a Study Plan and Stick to It - develop a structured study plan that covers all the necessary topics in a systematic way. Allocate specific time blocks for studying each subject, and make sure to include time for reviewing. Break your study sessions into manageable chunks, and set realistic goals to track your progress. Consistency is key, so try to stick to your plan and make adjustments as needed based on your progress and areas where you need more practice. 📚Take Practice Exams & Simulate Exam Conditions - utilize practice exams to familiarize yourself with the test format and identify areas where you need improvement. Practice exams help you manage your time effectively during the actual test and reduce anxiety by simulating test conditions. Additionally, make use of study guides, textbooks, and online resources specifically designed for the FE exam.  By understanding the exam format, creating a disciplined study plan, and using practice exams and study resources, you'll be well-prepared to tackle the FE exam and move forward in your engineering career and make substantial steps towards creating an impact with your career! This is the biggest problem I faced as a new engineer, and here’s the framework I wish I had when starting out. 1. Not everything required of you is worth mastering. I’m being generous when I say 20% of my college classes were useful professionally. Calc 2, MATLAB etc… all required, almost none of it relevant to designing power systems. Recognize that most of what’s in front of you is an obstacle to get past, not a skill to build. 2. Get past the obstacles. Don’t obsess over them. Understanding calc 2 is not important. Passing the class is. Understanding every FE exam concept is not important. Passing the exam is. You don’t get bonus points for deeply internalizing subjects that won’t show up in your career. 3. This applies at work too. My first engineering job had me changing the footer on 100 Word documents and printing stuff for people. It wasn’t helping me become a better engineer, but I needed to do it to build trust and get my foot in the door. 4. Figure out what branch of EE is right for you. Once you stop trying to get 100% on your diff EQ exam, you free up mental energy for the thing that actually matters most, figuring out what you want to do. You don’t need to understand every branch of EE. You need to know which one you’re going for. For me it was MEP. Once I knew that, I knew what was actually worth mastering. (Revit and power systems) 5. This is how engineering works in the real world too. Calc 2 will beg for your attention because it has a deadline and a grade. Learning practical skills won’t, because nobody’s making you do it. But one gets you a grade and the other gets you a career. The engineers who get ahead aren’t the ones who know everything, they’re the ones who figured out what matters most and went all in on that. I went from unemployed engineering grad to leading $100M+ projects as a licensed PE. Not because I mastered every class, because I figured out what I actually needed to learn to become the engineer I wanted to be. 👉 DM ‘Revit’ to learn the skills engineering firms are hiring for right now #electrical #engineering #student
What is the fastest way to solve a circuit? We have so many circuit analysis techniques: nodal analysis, mesh analysis, source transformation, superposition, and the list goes on and on. So, which method do we choose? This issue is particularly important when time is of the essence, just like in the FE exam, a 6-hour test that evaluates graduates on core electrical engineering concepts as the first step toward professional licensure. In this video, we solve a sample problem from the FE exam, demonstrating how to choose between different methods to arrive at the solution in the quickest way possible. #electricalengineering
