At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The truck started making a right turn, but because the turn was so tight, the front corner of the fifth wheel kept swinging closer and closer to the truck cab. For a moment, it looked like the trailer was going to make contact. Thankfully, it didn’t. It’s a good reminder that one of the easiest ways to damage your truck while towing isn’t at highway speeds… it’s often in a slow parking lot turn. ➡️ A few things that help: • Give yourself as much room as possible before turning. • Watch your mirrors instead of focusing only on where you’re driving. • If the angle starts looking too tight, stop and straighten out rather than trying to force the turn. • Know the turning limits of your truck and fifth wheel combination. If you tow with a short-bed truck, a sliding hitch can provide extra clearance by moving the pivot point farther back during tight turns. That additional space can help prevent the front of the fifth wheel from contacting the cab, but it’s still important to avoid over-turning and know your setup’s limits. We think the close calls are the best lesson, the one you learn without paying for it 😮‍💨 Have you ever had a close call with your RV? What happened, and what did it teach you?

Every time Aaron backs the truck up to connect our fifth wheel, I’m usually behind the truck helping line him up. So let me explain: 1️⃣ Aaron absolutely does NOT need me to back up the truck. My husband is a boss. He can do it. But we do this together, and I actually like being involved instead of sitting in the truck while he does everything. 2️⃣ I trust him. Completely. I know accidents can happen, which is why we have our own system and I’m not standing directly behind the truck once we’re lined up. I move to the side and we communicate. 3️⃣ Our hitch is a little ridiculous. Depending on how Aaron approaches and where the truck is turned, sometimes our cotter pin won’t line up correctly. So if we’re not approaching it just right, we have to pull forward and try again. This is a thing Idk why. It’s not that I don’t trust him. It’s actually the opposite. We’re a team. After doing this for years, we’ve figured out what works for us. And yes, I know how it looks on camera. I also know there are probably safer ways to do things, and everyone needs to do what they’re comfortable with. Side note, it’s not an always thing either. Tell me your hitching routine — I want to know how other RV couples do this! #RVLife #5thWheelLife #FullTimeRVers #LifeOnTheRoad #RVLifestyle
It still feels a little surreal saying this… That 46.5 ft fifth wheel my husband is driving in this video? …it’s our actual house. Not our camper. Not our vacation rig. Our home. Over 6 months ago we made a pretty big decision. We sold our house. Downsized our entire life. Packed up everything we own. Most of it went into storage while we waited almost 6 months for this rig to be finished. In the meantime we were living in a 27 ft travel trailer with two little kids… doing life with the absolute basics while we waited for this moment. No childcare. No extra help. Just the two of us figuring it out as we go. So watching Chris pull our 46.5 ft Brinkley out of the driveway for the very first time felt like one of those moments where everything suddenly becomes real. Honestly, it brought tears to my eyes. This isn’t just a big RV. It’s where our kids will wake up. Where we’ll cook dinner. Where we’ll figure out this new season of life together. Our home… just on wheels now. We’re still getting settled, but we can’t wait to share this whole journey. If you’re new here, follow along for our full-time RV life with two little kids 👇 @campingwiththeblantons 🚐✨
Everybody thinks towing a fifth wheel is intimidating… Honestly? After doing it for years now, I think they’re EASIER to tow than bumper pulls 😅 More stable. Less sway. Better control. And hitching up really isn’t as complicated as people make it seem once you understand the basics. Still remember the first time hooking one up though… definitely stressful 😂 Would you rather tow: 🚐 Fifth wheel OR 🏕 Bumper pull? #RVLife #FifthWheel #RVTowing #FullTimeRV #campinglife
1. We have a REAL vehicle everywhere we go. No more towing a separate vehicle behind the motorhome. Once we unhitch, the truck is ready for exploring, groceries, sightseeing, softball tournaments—whatever we’re doing. 2. We got WAY more living space. The fifth wheel feels much more like a small apartment than an RV. More room to spread out, better separation of spaces, and more privacy when traveling as a family. 3. The floorplans are hard to beat. This was a big one for us. Our fifth wheel gives us dedicated spaces for the kids instead of everyone essentially sharing one big living area. 4. If the truck needs service, our HOME stays put. With a motorhome, your engine and your house are one vehicle. If something mechanical happens, your entire RV can end up at the shop. With the fifth wheel, we can leave the RV at the campground. 5. It fits the way we travel NOW. Our RV life has changed over the years. We aren’t constantly moving every day, and when we arrive somewhere, we usually stay awhile. For that style of travel, having a big comfortable home base and a truck to explore in makes more sense for us. Do I miss things about our motorhome? Absolutely. But for this season of RV life… the fifth wheel wins. #FifthWheelLife #RVLife #RVLiving #RVTravel GratefulGlamper
