Follow @electronic.us for daily EDM nostalgia Flat Beat still grooves with its quirky, unmistakable vibe. Released in 1999 by French producer Mr. Oizo, the track became a global hit thanks to its simple yet infectious bassline and offbeat rhythm. Known for its association with the iconic Levi’s commercials featuring the puppet Flat Eric, Flat Beat became a defining track of the French house movement, blending minimalism with a playful, experimental edge. More than two decades later, it still hits with the same cool, laid-back energy, proof that sometimes less really is more in electronic music.

Reposted from @fresh.new.tunes …. A legendary sample flip that changed dance music 🤯 Daft Punk’s “One More Time” is one of the most iconic electronic dance music songs ever, and a big part of that magic is the sampling. The core hook comes from Eddie Johns’ 1979 track “More Spell On You”, which Daft Punk chopped, processed, and rearranged into a French house anthem that helped define the sound of early 2000s EDM and dance music production. Did you already know “One More Time” was built from a sample? Let us know in the comments 💬 🎥: @tracklib #DaftPunk #OneMoreTime #Sampling #MusicProduction #ElectronicMusic

Happy birthday to 'Flat Beat' by Mr. Oizo 🎉 Exactly 27 years ago, a 24 year old bedroom musician from Paris called Quentin Dupieux made a "stupid loop" in two hours on cheap equipment and accidentally created one of the most iconic records in electronic music history. That track was 'Flat Beat' and the little yellow puppet headbanging alongside it was Flat Eric. What most people don't know is that 'Flat Beat' was never supposed to be a song at all. It was written purely as the soundtrack to a Levi's advert, and Dupieux only realised it had something special when he cranked it up on set and watched everyone's reaction to Flat Eric nodding along to the beat. Within weeks of the ad airing in January 1999 the track had taken on a life of its own, hitting number one across Europe and selling close to four million copies. A loop that wasn't even meant to exist had become one of the year's biggest dance records. 27 years later and 'Flat Beat' remains completely untouchable and Flat Eric lives forever. Do you remember this? 👇🏻
