Flatworm cutting and it's rebirth !
Flatworms are considered biologically immortal because they have special stem cells that constantly replace old tissue, they keep their DNA tips long, and they can regrow their entire bodies from tiny pieces.
This tiny flatworm can regrow parts of its body. 🔬 #planaria #reels #science #biology #microscope

Who’s that girl? Well it is none other than Notoplana acticola, a flatworm commonly found under rocks in the rocky intertidal ecosystem. This flatworm can eat prey up to half its size by extending its pharynx and swallowing the prey whole. These animals only have one opening so whatever is not useful is excreted through the same whole. Instead of eyes and a head, these flatworms have chemosensory receptors that allow them to detect where water and prey are located. They are hermaphrodites, possessing both sperm and eggs. When they reproduce they fertilize one another’s eggs with their sperm. They also can regenerate body parts. #funfacts #creaturefeature #tidepools #marinebiology #tidepooling #sandiego #funthingstodowithkids
What happens if you cut a flatworm into two? Does it become two new animals, or could it even become two different species? 🤯
Flatworms are among the most incredible regenerating animals on Earth. A single cut can result in two complete flatworms—but the answer is not what most people think!
Watch till the end to discover the fascinating science behind this amazing creature. 👀

What if I told you this creature can grow an entirely new body after being cut apart?
Meet the planarian-a flatworm with one of the most extraordinary regenerative abilities on Earth.
When its body is cut into pieces, each fragment can regenerate into a complete new worm, rebuilding its brain, eyes, organs, and nervous system. This incredible feat is made possible by powerful stem cells called neoblasts, which can develop into aimost any type of ceii.
Scientists are studying planarians to better understand tissue regeneration and explore whether these discoveries could one day help advance regenerative medicine in humans.
Nature is full of unbelievable mysteries-and this is one of its greatest.

Cut them into pieces, and they just make more of themselves. 🤯 Meet the Planarian flatworm, the ultimate master of regeneration. Thanks to a massive pool of specialized stem cells called neoblasts, a planarian can regrow an entirely new head, brain, and body from a fragment as tiny as 1/279th of its original size—all in about two weeks. Nature’s literal cheat code. 🧬🐛

Real-life sci-fi happening in a petri dish. 🧪✨
Meet the Planarian flatworm. Cut it into pieces, and every single piece will regrow into a completely new, fully functioning worm in just a couple of weeks. They don't just heal—they rebuild their entire brains, eyes, and nervous systems from scratch.
Is this the closest thing to functional immortality nature has ever created? Let me know what you think in the comments! 👇

This freshwater planarian can rebuild missing parts of its body using adult stem cells called neoblasts.
Some populations of Schmidtea mediterranea also reproduce by fission—splitting themselves into pieces that regenerate what they are missing.
Even more strangely, experiments suggest that some learned information may persist after the original head is removed and a new brain develops. How that information is retained is still being investigated.
These animals are only millimeters to a couple of centimeters long and are native to the western Mediterranean.
Species: Schmidtea mediterranea
Habitat: Freshwater
Region: Western Mediterranean
