Watch as Book Ends, our 50m semi-displacement yacht, gracefully navigates the challenges of docking at the superyacht village. This vessel is powered by two MTU 16v 4000 M65 engines and a 90kW bow thruster, showcasing the perfect blend of power and precision. As the crew awaited the completion of the floating dock, they faced the unique challenge of executing this maneuver without prior inspection of the location. With 10 knots of wind and a current of 1 knot pushing against the bow, Captain Antonio and his skilled team were determined to master the situation. Initially, they approached the dock to assess the environment, keeping the engines running to counteract the current while maintaining a stationary position. After a careful evaluation, Captain Antonio realized they had just 4 feet to maneuver the boat sideways—a tight squeeze! Utilizing synchronized control of the engines and the electric bow thruster, the crew expertly avoided a diagonal approach, demonstrating the importance of teamwork and familiarity with the vessel. With the trained and watchful eyes of the crew positioned at the bow and stern, Captain Antonio executed a laser-precise maneuver that brought the boat gently into position. Thanks to their expertise and attention to detail, Book Ends was docked with finesse, utilizing its design effectively, even without a bulbous bow, to maximize the limited space available.
