This looks slower because of focal length. At 8×, the lens compresses distance — objects in the background move almost the same speed as the car, so your brain reads it as slower motion. At 0.5×, the lens exaggerates distance — nearby objects fly past the camera, which makes everything feel faster. Same speed. Different lens. Different perception. Ever wonder why your face looks weird on camera sometimes? It’s not you…it’s your lens. 👉 24mm = wide, distorted, cinematic vlog energy 👉 35mm = natural storytelling 👉 50mm = balanced & flattering 👉 85mm = compression = expensive portrait look 👉 200mm = pure Hollywood Same subject. Same framing. Different story. The lens you pick changes the emotion, not just the shot. Chasing Light in the Gloom 📸❄️ Lately it’s been dark, gloomy, and the daylight disappears faster than you’d expect. On days like these, the best thing you can do is switch to a longer focal length, like the Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR, and start searching for angles, silhouettes, and moments happening a little further away. Even in the cold, there’s always something worth capturing… you just have to look beyond the obvious. ✨ #VisualTale #StockholmStories #StreetPhotography #fujifilmxt5 #cinematicfeel #EverydayMagic

How to choose the right focal length 👇 In this video, I’m showing you how 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm lenses change the way an image looks. Notice the car is framed the same way every time, as I am stepping farther and farther from the car, only the focal length changes. Watch closely to see how each lens affects the look and distortion. • 24mm: The wide-angle lens shows more of the background, giving an expanded look and making the space appear larger. However, it can distort the face a bit, especially around the edges, giving an exaggerated look. • 35mm: This focal length brings a nice balance between background and subject, showing detail without much distortion. It’s wide but keeps your subject looking natural—great for handheld shots. • 50mm: Known as the “normal” lens, this focal length closely matches what the human eye sees. There’s minimal distortion, making it ideal for portraits and close-ups that feel natural and true-to-life. • 85mm: A classic portrait lens. It gives beautiful subject separation with a natural background blur, flattering for faces while keeping proportions accurate. Perfect for close-ups with a cinematic feel. • 135mm: With this longer focal length, the background compresses, appearing closer and more blurred. This brings the focus right to the subject and is ideal for isolating your subject from the background. Each focal length tells a different story. Experiment to see which works best for your style! Shot on @dji_ronin DJI Ronin RS 3 Pro for smooth, stable, and cinematic movement. Tips for the steadiest shots: lower your center of gravity, even dropping to one knee like in this shot can give extra stability. Keep the gimbal close to your body, move slowly and rotate the wrist while moving the gimbal to keep you subject centered. Shooting with longer focal lengths? Slow down even more and plan your movements carefully, since any shake is magnified. #djironin #RS3Pro #videography #videographer #cinematography #filmmaking #lens #focallength #photographer #gimbaltips #gimbal
