Diabetes sucks and as a parent of a child with Type 1, I can sometimes feel powerless to do anything about it. That's why I've decided to take on the @diabetesuk UK wide Cycle Ride challenge this April and raise money to support other families out there who are going through a similar journey to the one we have. I'll be riding 1000kms in April including my biggest physical challenge yet - on April 30th I'll be competing in a race in Mallorca - riding 225kms with over 4000m metres of climbing.....IN ONE SINGLE DAY. To say I'm nervous is an understatement but if Marnie can take on Diabetes, so can I. I refuse to pass down diet culture to my daughter. I won’t teach her that: ❌ Some foods are “good” and others are “bad” ❌ She needs to “earn” dessert ❌ Her body can’t be trusted ❌ Food should come with guilt ❌ She needs to restrict to be worthy Instead, I’m teaching her: ✅ Food is both fuel AND joy ✅ All foods can fit in a healthy life ✅ She can trust herself completely But here’s the thing - I had to learn this for myself first. I had to unlearn decades of diet culture programming. I had to learn to trust my own body before I could teach her to trust hers.
