🧱 Myth: Thicker panels always mean better insulation.
It sounds logical, right?
“If it’s thicker, it must insulate better.”
But in reality, thickness alone does not determine insulation performance.
What really matters is the material’s thermal conductivity (λ-value) 📊
When we talk about insulation performance, we’re actually referring to R-value, which is calculated as:
R = Thickness ÷ Thermal Conductivity
This means two panels with the same thickness can perform very differently depending on the core material.
For example:
• PIR λ ≈ 0.022–0.026
• EPS λ ≈ 0.036–0.040
• Rockwool λ ≈ 0.035–0.045
👉 A 50mm PIR panel can provide insulation performance close to 70–80mm of EPS.
In Australian summers, where roof temperatures can exceed 60°C ☀️,
simply increasing thickness may increase cost and weight — but not always efficiency.
✔️ Choosing a material with a lower thermal conductivity often delivers better performance than just going thicker.
When it comes to building systems,
it’s not about “more” — it’s about “smarter.” 🔍

Maximising Thermal Performance from the Top Down💪🏼♻️
This roof is being fitted with high-performance insulation between the rafters to achieve an excellent U-value, keeping heat in during winter and out during summer.
But we didn’t stop there 👇
Over the top, we’ve added TLX Gold multi-foil insulation, creating an extra thermal layer that:
✔️ Boosts overall energy efficiency.
✔️ Reduces heat loss.
✔️ Improves comfort all year round.
This layered approach means the roof isn’t just built, it’s future-proofed, efficient, and compliant with modern building standards.
Quality materials + correct installation = long-term performance.
