Start small. Start messy. Just start … if you want to write more but don’t know how to get going or keep going I am here for you with a special, one off free writing session. No writer likes the first words they put on the page. But they all start the same way: by putting something down. I like to think those first words on screen or a page are just pleased to be there — they’re saying “play with me” — inviting you to make a start. And that’s exactly what we’ll do together in my Write With Me session on Tuesday June 2, 2026, from 7–8pm UK time. There is a link to join in my bio above and you can see the round highlight and tap that to go to a link to join for free too. Can’t wait to see you. Ask any questions below ⬇️ ❤️🙏

Ekphrastic poems are poems inspired by visual art or images, using what the poet sees and imagines to create something new. In class today, I put up some images and we spent five minutes free writing. This was my quick write and it wasn't even the best one! (Allison had that! Tag me if you post it!) If you’re looking for inspiration to write or for a way into a poem, scroll through old family photographs, street photography, paintings, or random images online. Choose one that makes you feel something, then write your way into it and see where it goes. 🙏🏽✍️ #EnglishTeacher #Poetry #Writing

I’ve been free writing so much should I make little songs out of them and post them every day I feel like something like that could be good for me would it be good for you?
the cut-up technique is a super popular lyric writing tool. i’m a big fan of using my own “source material” for cut-ups, old lyrics, free writing, journals etc, just makes them feel more like “me.” #songwriter #songwriting #songwriters #songwritersofinstagram #songwritingtips #musicteacher #songwritingprocess
1️⃣ Growth across writing pieces matters more to me than perfection on one piece. That’s why I stopped only using unit-specific rubrics and started collecting diagnostic data that lets me see growth over time. 2️⃣ We have to teach writing, not just assign it. Giving kids prompts, activities, and assignments isn’t the same as teaching them how to write. Writers need a clear, repeatable process that reduces cognitive load so they can put more of their thinking into the actual writing. 3️⃣ Writing is thinking, not a quest for a perfect final product. Writing requires kids to make decision after decision. I want students to recognize those decisions, articulate how they’ve grown, and become stronger thinkers and writers, not just produce something polished enough for the bulletin board. 💥 If you have no idea where to start with your writing block, comment HELP. I’ll send you a free diagnostic quiz to help you figure out where to start, along with the sign-up for my next FREE writing training.
‘Before you Shaved your Hair’ is a poem from my debut poetry collection, ‘Growing Pains’ 🌱 📖 Last month, I republished this book and now it has evolved into my first solo art exhibition, ‘Growing Pains: The Immersion’ which will be at @art.post.gympie from 6th-24th October ✨ You can find both the book and exhibition details (including a full program of free writing events, ticketed workshops, an Author Talk & Closing ceremony) at the link in my profile!
This is the final year (for now, at least) of our keepsake boxes. The @simplified Planner keepsake box collection I have in my office is eleven years old. Each year I’ve been able to add another to the collection. Though expansive tariffs mean we have to retire this special part of our planners with the collection coming out next year, you can still get one with your 2026 Simplified Planner (or @dapperdesk planner) purchase today. Save 30% with code CHEER (and get a free writing tool with purchases over $50 today only). As a thank you from our small business — for all your incredible support always, but especially this year, we’re giving away TWO 2026 Planners of your choice — one for you, and one for a friend of your choosing. Tag your friend below and I’ll select a pair tomorrow at 10am ET. 🫶
