Michèle Lamy (@lalamichmich) gave Wallpaper* a special tour of a new exhibition of Rick Owens’ furniture currently on show at @carpentersworkshopgallery in London. Opening for Frieze week, the exhibition at @_ladbrokehall comprises archival and new editions of furniture designs by @rickowensonline and Lamy, a creative endeavour born out of need many years ago, as Lamy explains. Titled 'Rust Never Sleeps', after the 1979 Neil Young anthem, the pieces in the show are designed in Owens’ signature monolithic style, with memorable highlights including an enormous elm bed complete with antler horns ’Antler Bed ‘, rusted steel chaise longues ‘Tomb Chair Black Oak Left’ and a day bed made from recycled daybed ‘Double Bubble Steel Rust’. Here, rust takes on symbolic weight. In Lamy and Owens’ hands, oxidation becomes an act of defiance; decay is no longer decline but proof of persistence.
