Yesterday, I did a thing. A thing I’ve been wanting for a verrry long time. This tattoo means so much to me because what it represents. First, from a societal standpoint it’s a big “screw you” to the notion that women need to fit into a box by acting and appearing a certain way. I was always told, “noone will take your serious” “it’s not professional” “it’s not appropriate”. + I let those stories win for a long time. I always looked to other women with neck tattoos and felt “That is so bold, brave and rebellious; if only I could get one”. Then I wondered WHY do I think I can’t get one? Why is it for others, but not for ME? Alas, it came back to the feminine conditioning I was exposed to. As always, when we have that inner nudge, it’s our job to listen to it. I rejected it for many years until the universe gave me a loud and clear sign 6 months ago that I could not ignore. I’m gonna share more of the back story in a solo podcast episode, so if you’re interested stay tuned! Second, I wanted this tattoo to represent more of my spiritual side and journey. The inspiration beind this tattoo reflects the saying: “the eyes are the window to the soul and the soul is the gateway to our truth.” The design and location serve as a reminder to always follow my truth, speak my truth, and express my truth. My hope is for others to see this and be reminded of the same. To all the women out there who feel conflicted about following their truth or staying within the bounds of what’s expected of you - I say GO FOR IT! The liberation of breaking free from the chains that confine you is something every women deserves to experience. I can’t thank @sabrinalkhysytattoo enough for helping me bring my vision to life and for my husband @phillybjj as always, for supporting me & standing by my side for 10+ hours. Week 3 we are feeling good 💪 No doctor - No worries 🥩 My gut feels the strongest it has felt since being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. I am feeling very hopeful of what’s to come if this is how I’m feeling after 3 weeks. No coffee, alcohol and processed food is tough. But not as tough as spending a lifetime on medication wondering if things will improve. We can heal from anything, it just takes the right help, focus and discipline. #fucknormal
