🪴Spring is coming! Is your garden ready?🪴
Here are 10 jobs I have on my to-do list for the coming weeks:
1. •• Planting or Tidying Strawberries •• If you haven’t already, now is a good time to plant new strawberry plants or tidy up existing patches by removing old leaves and runners to encourage new growth in spring.
2. •• Finishing to Top Up Beds with Compost •• Complete topping up your garden beds with well-rotted compost to enrich the soil, improve structure, and boost fertility in preparation for spring planting.
3. •• Chitting Potatoes •• Start chitting your seed potatoes by setting them in a cool, light place to encourage strong shoots to form before planting.
4. •• Sow Early Vegetables Indoors •• This month I will be sowing peppers, onions, lettuce, spinach, dill and pea shoots. All in modules indoors.
5. •• Planting Bare-rooted Trees and Shrubs •• There is still time to plant bare-root trees, shrubs, and roses as long as the ground is not frozen or waterlogged.
6. •• Pruning Fruit Trees •• February is a great time to prune most deciduous trees and shrubs before they start to actively grow in spring. I will be pruning my pear and apple trees this month.
7. •• Mulching Perennials •• Apply a layer of mulch around perennials, trees, and shrubs to protect roots, suppress weeds, and conserve soil moisture.
8. •• Feeding the Birds •• Continue to feed birds and ensure they have access to water, providing vital support during the last of the winter months.
9. •• Planning the Garden and Ordering Seeds •• Finalise your garden plans and order any seeds you will need for the season ahead.
10. •• Cleaning pots and tools •• Now is a good time to get your pots and tools ready in preparation for the busy spring season.

I’m trying everything I can to save my fall crops, but these little things are putting up a fight. Gardening is definitely not for the weak! 🤣

Your garden has something blooming in August. Great. It is around the side of the house where nobody stands, and the bed by your front door has been bare since the second week of July.
That is the problem with one calendar for the whole garden. It averages away the only bed you actually look at.
So I am building bloom calendars per section. Draw a bed, it gets its own calendar, and you see that bed’s gaps instead of the whole yard’s. Still working on it, it will be better by the time it ships.

Autumn Garden Update 🍂 🍁
It’s currently the last month of Australian Autumn and my Variegated Alocasia Macrorrhiza is already showing signs of cold damage.
Alocasia Gageana Aurea is still looking happy though 💛
Night temperatures so far is around 15'C/59'F. It has been raining so much the last few days so that helps with humidity a bit.

🐝 Our honeybee garden has been our biggest challenge, with some very thirsty plants!
🌸 The Potting Shed Garden is already putting out new growth AND survived a massive downpour beautifully.
🌿 Our woodland garden is settling in, but something mysterious is happening to the pulmonaria.
Here's your reminder that gardening isn't always picture-perfect. There will be successes, struggles, surprises, and plenty of lessons along the way.
