Yugoslavia’s architectural legacy: Brutalism of Genex (also called Western City Gate of Belgrade) #brutalism #belgrade #genex #balkan #balkanstories

The Genex Tower, Belgrade 📍🇷🇸 Also known as the Western City Gate (Zapadna kapija Beograda), is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Belgrade and a premier example of brutalist architecture. Designed by architect Mihajlo Mitrović in 1977 and completed in 1980, the structure serves as a greeting to those entering the city from the direction of the airport. The tower is a masterpiece of the Yugoslav Socialist Modernist movement. Its “raw concrete” aesthetic, bold geometric shapes, and functionalist design earned it a spot in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York during their 2018 exhibition on Yugoslav architecture. While the residential side remains active, the business tower has faced years of vacancy and was recently sold to a private investor with plans for revitalization. It stands as a stark, gritty symbol of an era that aimed to blend high-density living with futuristic urban planning. #brutalism #socialism #genex #Serbia #Belgrade

Belgrade’s Concrete Icons 👀 New Belgrade feels like a time capsule of Yugoslav modernism - bold lines, massive scale, and so much atmosphere. Which one is your favorite: 1–4? #belgrade #serbia #belgradebrutalism #genex #travelblogger

I used to walk into the kitchen with a plan. Now I walk in and hope the plan finds me. 😂 Anyone else doing laps around the house trying to remember what you needed? #agehumor #genx #genex #generationx

How about your Mom? Did she seem to always know where you were? 🤣 #aginghumor #genex #generationjones

Never…and I mean never challenge a gen x’er on songs from the 80s and 90s. We sat by our radios for hours hitting play/stop/rewind to nail down every single word in a song. We studied the lyrics on cassette tape insert for days like we were studying for the bar exam at 10 years old. And while I may have absolutely NO idea what day it is, forget my own kids names, and lose hours of my life searching for my glasses while they are on my face, I will sing every single word to We Didn’t Start the Fire like I wrote it. As you were…. #genex #genxers #90sera #momstuff #youngatheart
