Join us on Sunday, March 22 for a Ukrainian embroidery workshop with Nataliia Shynkarenko and learn the vyrizuvannia (cut-out) embroidery design. This workshop is for confident beginners and experienced artists to explore Ukrainian traditional embroidery. Participants will be provided with the chance to learn the basics of vyrizuvannia technique, which includes stitching, cutting and weaving the threads to secure the embroidery. Types of Armenian embroidery 🥸

The folk art of Kalotaszeg, a region of 34 villages in Transylvania, is a rich and elaborate tradition. Spanning from wood carvings and furs to numerous complex weaves and embellishments, they are best known for Írásos, or written embroidery. These elaborate embroideries date back to the late 18th century, drawn exclusively by "writing-women" who replicate these elaborate designs from memory onto fabric. Often, a single writing woman would provide designs for at least half the makers of her village. On April 2nd, join TATTER and Sarah Pedlow of @threadwritten for a virtual workshop on Írásos. Through this in-depth cultural experience, you'll learn the intricate history of this beautiful art form, enhanced by Sarah's experience and knowledge of the region, and leave with a new textile tradition to incorporate into your practice. This embroidery references the mythological iconography that emerged in Anatolia during the early 2nd millennium BCE. Known as the musicians of the goddess of love and war, Ištar, Ninatta and Kulitta take the stage with tambourines and sistrums, inspired by the ritual scenes of ancient Anatolia. Technique and Medium: In this embroidery on alpaga fabric, backstitch, stem stitch, silk shading, bullion rose stitch, and fishbone stitch techniques have been used, enhanced with ribbon work and bead embellishment.
