Stop rooting pineapple tops in water. It works… but it’s actually the harder way. I cut the fruit off the crown, let it callous so it won’t rot, and plant it straight in soil. Then I cut the tips of the leaves so I know exactly which ones existed when I planted it. If new leaves show up without the cut tips… I already know it’s growing. A week later I pulled it up to check. Roots. Right next to it is another pineapple grown the same way already fruiting.
