I started a lot of this gomphrena back in April and it produced for me all summer long. I did a second succession that got planted in July too. I cut so much all summer long for both retail sales and wholesale and even more for drying! It’s dries so perfect! Some people hate gomphrena - I say you can never have too much!😏 #flowers #flowerfarm #flowerfarming #flowerfarmer #gomphrena
Flower of the Day : Gomphrena Some flowers need constant attention. Gomphrena isn’t one of them. 🌸 Also known as globe amaranth, this flower thrives in the heat, handles dry conditions like a champ, and keeps blooming long after many flowers give up for the summer. And those bright blooms? They even hold their color when dried! Follow for tomorrow’s flower - Celosia! #floweroftheday #flower #Gomphrena #garden #theshilohfarm
Thanks for 1.3M+views Gomphrena seeds 💜 Gomphrena/ Button flower A great cut flowers, dried flower, and garden plant 🕊️🌿Got these Gomphrena flowers from a relative and planted the seeds in November. They germinated in a week but took time to grow. In December, I transplanted them into a bigger pot with a well-balanced soil mix: ✔ 50% Garden Soil ✔ 20% Sand (for drainage) ✔ 30% Compost (for nutrients) ✨By January, the plants started growing well. In February, new buds appeared, and now they are in full bloom! ✨I didn’t use any fertilizer after repotting, just one dose of liquid banana fertilizer. Since they grew in winter, the growth was slow, but the results were worth it! ⏳ Germination to bloom timeline 🌱 Sow seeds: early spring February–April (best in warm weather)or late summer (June - September) 🌿 Germination: 5–10 days 🌱 Seedling growth: 3–4 weeks 🪴 Transplant to a bigger pot: After 4–5 weeks (once seedlings are strong) 🌿 Healthy growth phase: 6–8 weeks after germination 🌸 Buds appearing: 8–10 weeks after germination 🌺 Full bloom: 10–12 weeks after sowing Total time from seeds to bloom: 2.5 to 3 months Tip: Sow in early summer for faster growth and continuous flowering! . . . I’ve grown all the varieties Audray White is the best and the one that sucks the least to harvest 😅 iykyk The key is letting it mature. I don’t start harvesting my gomphrena until the stalks/stems feel woody. In my zone I plant out just after Mother’s Day and start cutting in late August. Once it’s ready to cut EVERYONE gets gomphrena in their bouquets 🤣 It’s a time suck to harvest, but I love it . . . . #fowlcreekfarm #cutflowerfarm #cutflowerfarmer #gomphrena
When the Florida summer heat takes out half the garden, gomphrena is still out here thriving. 🥵 🌸 These beauties are cut-and-come-again flowers, which means the more you harvest, the more they bloom. I plant them at the beginning of summer here in Florida, and they’ll keep going strong for months. Even better? They’re easy to grow from seed so go ahead and put gomphrena on your list of seeds to snag for next year. #cutflowergarden #cutflower #gomphrena #heattolerantplants #floridaflowers #zone10a #augustflowers #gardentips #floridagardening #globeflower
It's time to grow our annual gomphrena! This is the 4th year I'm growing this lovely annual for my front walkway border. I LOVE it!! I've found i have the most success with them if I soak the seeds overnight or the day before soaking them. Usually, it is somewhere around 24 hours. They germinate much easier after the chaff has softened up. I collected my own seed from my plants and will be growing them. Such a prolific plant! Drought tolerant and blooms it's head off from July through late October (first frost) here in my zone 6b/7a garden. It's my favorite annual to grow. I find starting them in trays under grow lights gives me more control. I want to make sure i end up with enough plants for my border (which is about 18-20). I have had mixed results with dorect sowing them. If winter sowing gomphrena seeds, you dont have to pre soak them. The moisture in the container will break down the chaff for you. Save this reel for reference and share with your friends. If you haven't grown gomphrena yet, give it a go. I am pretty sure you'll be hooked. Tell me what are you seed starting this week? -Steph 🌱 #hookedandrooted #gardening #seedstarting #gardeningtips #gardeninghacks #gomphrena #growwithme

If you’re looking for a flower that truly earns its keep, put Gomphrena—aka globe amaranth or bachelor button—on your garden list. 🌿 Why I grow it: It thrives in heat (the supreme test is Texas heat!), blooms nonstop spring through fall, and holds up beautifully as a cut flower or dried everlasting. It’s an old-fashioned favorite that belongs in every cottage garden. Gomphrena’s tidy habit, drought tolerance, and appeal to pollinators like butterflies make it one of those dependable garden friends you’ll want to grow again and again. How to grow Gomphrena: • Start seeds indoors in spring • Or direct sow in warm soil after last frost • Give it full sun and good drainage • Water to establish—then it’s mostly on its own • Bonus: It often self-seeds • Suitable for borders, containers, and cutting gardens 🌸 Favorite varieties I’ve grown: • Pastel Mix – dreamy soft pinks and whites • Fireworks – bold and bright with hot pink and yellow tips • Pinball Purple – so pristine it almost looks artificial • Buddy Series – compact, perfect for containers and small spaces Gomphrena may not ask for much—but it gives color, cheer, and pollinator joy all season long. When I lost my entire stand of “Rose Mint” agastache in this area of the garden to root rot in our outrageously wet spring, I was so disappointed. I feel like it’s extra painful when it’s a plant you grew from seed, but I also had envisioned it pairing beautifully with my “Pomponella” rose. I decided to grow lots of “QIS Pink” gomphrena to take its place here. I sure was surprised when several volunteer agastache started poking their heads up out of the soil. This trio ended up filling this space in a way that was even better than I originally imagined. 🤍 I purchased my seed for these two from @selectseeds #gomphrena #agastache #pomponellarose #pomponella #kordesrosen #rosecompanions #zone7gardening #virginiagardener #virginiagardener #rosemintagastache #qispinkgomphrena
