Ever since I saw the paintings of Nicolas Lopez, I knew I had to understand his magic. He calls it the 'language of watercolor,' and it fits perfectly.
The theory sounds simple: very thick paint + lots of water.
But the practice? That’s where the struggle began. How thick? How much water? How long to wait? I admit, it was frustrating to 'ruin' quite a few sheets of paper trying to figure out the ratios.
But then... I caught a glimpse of it. The final result is so cool! I’m still far from Lopez’s level, but I’m determined to learn how to do this consistently so I can integrate it into my own style.

Німецький бренд акварельних фарб Schmincke випустили спеціальну лінійку супергранулюючих фарб у форматі тематичних серій з п’яти кольорів кожна. Фарби випускаються в окремих тюбиках по 15 мл та в наборах з 5-ти тюбиків по 5 мл та по 15 мл кожної серії.
Фарби розрізняються за наступними колірними підкатегоріями:

Кожна фарба поєднує щонайменше два гранулючі пігменти, чим власне досягається ефект “надгрануляції”. Фарби складаються з пігментів з різних колірних діапазонів, таким чином ефект грануляції призводить до додаткових змін кольору. Наприклад, колір ‚Deep Sea Indigo‘ (14952) — це поєднання фіолетового та зеленого пігментів, тоді як ‚Glacier Brown‘ (14965) містить коричневий та зелений пігменти.
Структура кольорів варіюється залежно від типу паперу та кількості води. Чим грубіший папір, тим сильніший ефект грануляції.
Усі спеціальні фарби Schmincke Horadam® Aquarell з ефектом супергрануляції мають світлостійкість 4 і 5 зірок і містять лише ті пігменти, які входять до складу вже відомих акварелей Horadam®. Стосовно покривної здатності ці фарби можна віднести до напівпокривних та напівпрозорих.

Granulation welding process
I have been working with the ancient technique of granulation for more than 30 years and I am constantly being asked how exactly it is that these tiny golden spheres appear to be applied to the surface of a piece of jewellery and yet are firmly connected metallically. From a purely technical point of view, it is a simple welding process, but you need an infinite amount of patience, lots of practice and a high tolerance for frustration. But when you have succeeded and all the granules are nice and round and firmly welded on the surface, it is an incredibly good feeling to have created something beautiful again. It’s definitely addictive for me and me again and again. I really love this technique.

Making even granulations.
Making granulations as decorative elements is a fun little process. To ensure they are even in size use equally sized jump rings. To create a full sphere you can carve out a divot into a charcoal block using a doming punch. For flat bottomed granulations simply use the charcoal block as it is!
