Let us know in the comments below. 💚 Great Falls Loop has something for everyone. It’s got 4.6 miles of trails, so even if you’re on a bike (or a horse) there’s something for you.There is a $20 fee per car to enter. The first overlook is just a short 5 minute walk from the parking lot. There are flat gravel paths near the visitor center and wheelchair-accessible ramps for everyone to enjoy! 💚 Stony Man Trail is the perfect trail for someone who wants to get outside for a good time, not a long time. It’s one of the easiest hikes in @shenandoahnp with 1.6-mile round trip. Pets are not allowed on this hike, but the views at the top make it all worth it. 💛 Buffalo Mountain Natural Area Preserve is a 2.2 mile hike unlike anywhere else in Virginia, mainly because of it’s high-elevation and unique geography. It’s actually the only known location in the world for a certain mealybug. This short hike is steep, but has incredible views of Floyd County. 💛 Mary’s Rock is a choose your fighter kind of trail, you can do 2.9 or the harder 3.7 mile hike. No one knows the exact legend of Mary but she found one of the best views in the area. There is a rock scramble to get to the top, so enjoy carefully. ❤️ Old Rag has a big reputation in @shenandoahnps. It’s one of the most popular and hardest hikes. It’s a 9.2 mile hike for the seasoned hiker or someone just looking for a serious leg day. It’s a long way up, with rock scrambles along the way. Sadly you’ll have to leave your pets at home on this trail and don’t forget to get a day pass. ❤️ Mount Rogers is the hardest on the list for a reason. It’s about 9 miles and is highest point in Virginia at 5,729 ft. The biggest payoff on this hike isn’t just the views, it’s the wild ponies. Please keep your distance from the ponies and leave no trace on the trail.

Are we rolling? It was the spring of 1892 and the beginning of the Falls City Cotton Mill, a building that would transform the community and surrounding landscape for decades to come. (How’s our Episode 1 intro?) The mill was built by early industrialist Asa Faulkner, whose vision for the Caney Fork River created jobs and a thriving community. The mill operated until 1902 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it still stands on the bluffs of the Caney Fork River as a reminder of Rock Island State Park’s history. Many visitors pass the mill on their way to Great Falls without knowing the story behind it. You can discover more about the mill’s history and actually explore inside when you join one of Rock Island’s guided tours. It’s tours like these and more that Seasonal Interpretive Rangers like Aubrey get to lead while spending their summer at Tennessee State Parks. SIRs also spend the summer creating activities for all ages, leading educational programs like guided tours, and working alongside rangers to protect the park’s natural resources.
