Drying out the last few pieces and quality checking every detail before the kiln. Greenware is fragile, so I’m handling everything with extra care.

Found this video in my drafts from a few years ago and got a huge wave of nostalgia…
There are several stages to a handmade pottery piece. This stage is preparing the piece for the first fire. I learned very quickly that this is the stage to get all the cleanup done (if needed). At this stage, before any fire 🔥, I could drop this in my recycle bucket and breathe new life into it. Once it’s been through the kiln, that option is no longer available. I like to check all the handle connections if there are any, check the bottoms to make sure they are level and make any smoothing adjustments. It’s WAY better than trying to sand surfaces down after the fact. Handmade pottery takes time at every stage. When you try and rush things in ceramics…it always seems to backfire! Patience is key. #askmehowiknow

Sometimes you’re in a rush and all you got is a cardboard box, a towel, and a dream 😭 I really do need to be more careful though…. How do you transport greenware to your kiln?
