Need an Australian plant that will cover a lot of ground without adding much height? At a visit to the @ozbreed trial grounds in NSW, I had the chance to see an established Ground Hug™ Myoporum. A tough, low-growing Australian groundcover that grows to around 10cm high but can spread more than 4 metres wide. Its fast-spreading, dense foliage makes it particularly useful for suppressing weeds, stabilising soil and covering large areas, while keeping the landscape low and open. It handles drought, frost and coastal conditions, making it a great option for difficult and exposed sites. I especially liked the lush, deep green foliage. From a design point of view, it is a great way to introduce a strong green ground layer into an Australian planting scheme while maintaining a very low profile. Looking for a way to bring year-round greenery to those blank spaces in your garden? Meet Trachelospermum asiaticum, a great groundcover option for creating lush coverage with a neat and tidy finish. With a more compact, tighter growth habit than its commonly used relative (Trachelospermum jasminoides aka ‘StarJasmine’) this species is ideal for achieving full shapes or coverage. #trachelospermumasiaticum #groundcover #landscape #gardening #plantingdesigner
Full sun, no grass — here are the two ground covers I keep coming back to. First one is prairie verbena (glandularia bipinnatifida). It’s a wildflower that runs from Texas all the way up to South Dakota, and down here it’s evergreen year-round. We’ve filmed it covered in snow and ice, still blooming. That’s the kind of tough you want in a North Texas yard. Second is woolly stemodia (temodia lanata). If you’ve been thinking about silver ponyfoot, plant this instead — it’s hardier, it pulls pollinators, and that blue-gray foliage creates real contrast in a planting bed. Little flowers, big personality. Neither one is grass. Both will take the heat. If you want more in-depth advice like this, that’s exactly what our digital community is all about. Groundcovers can do more than fill empty space—they can help suppress weeds, protect soil, control erosion, and add year-round texture to your landscape. 🌿 The key is choosing the right plant for the right conditions: shade, moisture, sun exposure, foot traffic, and soil type all matter. A smarter groundcover choice means less maintenance and a healthier-looking landscape. #BestNorthwesternLandscape #GroundcoverPlants #WeedControl #LandscapeDesign #TacomaLandscaping

What else do you plant as a ground cover? Instead of filling every open space with traditional ground covers, try edible herbs that can do double duty. 🌿 Creeping thyme stays low and helps shade the soil, oregano naturally fills gaps but can spread vigorously, and bee balm forms patches through underground rhizomes while bringing tons of pollinator activity. 🐝🌸 Plus, all three can offer something edible right from the garden. 🌱 #GroundCover #HerbGarden #GardenTips #EdibleGarden #PollinatorGarden
