In this powerful scene from Hell on Wheels, Wes Studi’s character delivers a resonant line that confronts the very notion of colonialism and land ownership: “How can they own our land?” His words encapsulate the profound injustices faced by Native peoples during westward expansion. Studi’s portrayal underscores the enduring fight for Native sovereignty and exposes the heavy burden of colonial oppression, making the moment both moving and deeply thought-provoking. How can they own it? - Wes Studi from the series "Hell on wheels" #wesstudi #hellonwheels #colonialism #native

The tv series 'Hell on Wheels' is set during the post-Civil War era, focusing on the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad and its impact on various individuals, including former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon, businessman Thomas “Doc” Durant, and the Native American tribes affected by the railroad’s expansion. In Season 1 Episode 6, "Pride, Pomp and Circumstance," We see Senator Jordan Crane arriving to negotiate with the Cheyenne tribe, offering them a reservation and the promise of a “better way of life” under U.S. governance. Chief Many Horses challenges this proposition, expressing contentment with their current way of life and questioning the benefits proposed by the government. This exchange highlights the cultural misunderstandings and conflicting values between the U.S. authorities and Native American tribes during the westward expansion. The conversation escalates as Senator Crane warns of potential violence if the Cheyenne refuse the offer, to which Chief Many Horses responds with a threat of his own, emphasizing the deep tensions and the looming possibility of conflict. This scene encapsulates the broader struggles faced by Native American communities during this period, as they confronted external pressures to relinquish their lands and adapt to imposed changes that threatened their traditions and autonomy. #hellonwheels #tvseries #nativeamericans #unitedstates #nativeindian #indiginous #land #powerfulscene #wealth #higherpower #reel #viral #trending #reels #highchief

🦅 “These are Not Your Lands.” In the Hell on Wheels series, we are confronted with a major conflict between railroad expansion and Native American rights. 🛤️🔥 The tribes who have long lived on these lands are being forced out for progress they never asked for. 😔🌾 🪶 The chiefs firmly state that this land does not belong to the colonizers. This land belongs to their ancestors, guarded by their blood, traditions, and souls connected to nature 🌎🌿 💔 A reminder that land cannot be owned; it is an inheritance that must be respected. “This is not your land.” 🦅 #HellOnWheels #TheseAreNotYourLands #NativeAmerican #Indian #Chiefs #NativeHistory #AncestralLands #NativeTribes #IndigenousRights #HistoricalDrama #Colonialism #Displacement #LocalWisdom #ForgottenStories #IdentityStruggle #SpiritOfTheLand #MeaningfulTVSeries #CulturalRespect #LandBack #RespectNativeCulture 🌾🪶🦅
