First things first, #DanielEk is indeed a punk ass bitch. But news of him investing around $690 million dollars into an #AI drone startup isn't surprising for a few reasons. Mainly that the music industry or entertainment industry as a whole, on the big money stage is kinda subsidized by the military and defense contractors. Not super directly but in different ways, like major films hiring private mercs or weapons experts in the action movies, to the partnerships the NFL has with the military. And now Daniel Ek, CEO of #Spotify is tripling down on all of that musician wage theft he likes so much by investing in #Helsing (sounds like some super villain shit) a battle tech startup looking to further remove the human component from war by basically creating drones that can hunt folks down without needing a human on the 🎮
Spotify has basically been doing a version of payola (pay for play) for years. To the point where smaller artists who don't have the means to pay for a boost to get discovered in it's algo basically have no chance at all for their work to be streamed on the platform, all while the tech company's investors see record profits. We can also discuss the continued problems of bot farms, strange warehouses full of computers or mobile devices all streaming the same song to artificially boost it in Spotifys algorithm, are a growing concern. And with the pilfer tricknology that is #GenerativeAI we now have fake songs showing up on other artist's profiles, with Spotify having to be publicly shamed into helping folks remove these fake songs from their artist profiles.
Just saying, this streaming platform sucks ass, and musicians are tired of dealing with it. Daniels continued war monger investments cause indie rock band Deerhoof to leave the platform, and the way our compromised and spineless media continues to shit on musicians for speaking out against g*nocide (at a time where Isr*el is deliberately mixing narcotic pills in flour aid bags), signals that the broader creative collective will begin a divestment from these platforms.
