What is it about the mountains that makes you slow down, breathe a little deeper and take in your surroundings with more intent? I had such a wonderful time this weekend in Cashiers and Highlands, NC. It included a thoughtful conversation at the @thechattoogaclub with architect @tsadamsstudio about southerners, what makes a home timeless, what our clients are asking for that they weren’t 10 years ago and some of the mistakes we see homeowners make when building a home. I also love how different parts of the country call for the use of different materials. When we are designing at the beach, the sand, sun and salt air come into play while In the mountains, it’s snow, stone, wood, and the surrounding landscape. All beautiful and we love working in both of these settings. The goal is never to make a house feel like it belongs somewhere else, but to create a home that feels timeless, comfortable and personal. Add in some exploring, fresh mountain air and time with my husband, and it was a wonderful weekend in a pretty special part of the country. #danawolterinteriors #theeleganceandcomfortofhome

What a night! 🤠👢🐾 Paws & Boots was truly such a fun and special event! It was wonderful seeing everyone come together, enjoy themselves, and most importantly, help raise money for the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society. 🤍 I was so honored to be a part of such a great evening and to support an organization that does so much for our community and its animals. And what an absolutely beautiful setting at Nate & Kim Albers’ Hangerminium — the perfect backdrop for such a memorable night! So grateful to everyone who came out, shopped, supported, and made Paws & Boots such a success. Auburn 🤝 Highlands Two small towns people visit once… and somehow keep finding their way back to. Highlands has been our home away from home for years, and one of the best parts? It’s only a few hours from Auburn. ⛰️ So if you’re planning a family trip to Highlands, here are a few of our favorites: 🥾 HIKE: Whiteside Mountain 🥐 BAKERY: Edelweiss — always. ☕️ COFFEE: Calders 🛒 GROCERY STOP: Mountain Fresh Grocery — but calling this just a grocery store does not do it justice. 😂 Grab food while you’re there, and their pizza to cook at home is a WINNER. 🧸 FOR THE KIDS: Highlands Kids — and they have some GREAT sales. ⛰️ T-SHIRTS + HIKING GEAR: Bear Mountain Outfitters 🛍️ DOWNTOWN: Give yourself time to just wander. Popping in and out of the shops on Main Street is part of the Highlands experience. 🍽️ LUNCH: Town Hall. NEW favorite. We legitimately ate here twice this trip. Food, service, space — 10/10 across the board. And honestly, part of the fun is not over-planning it. Grab coffee, wander downtown, get outside, eat something good and enjoy the cooler mountain weather. Auburn → Highlands in just a few hours.
