There’s a trend I’ve been noticing in jiujitsu athletes tapping to illegal positions or submission’s just to force a DQ.
That’s not the sport WE love.
At ADCC PORTLAND, my opponent someone I respect deeply and one of the best grapplers I’ve ever shared the mat with accidentally applied an illegal move. I knew it wasn’t intentional. He would never try to hurt someone, and he would never want to win or lose that way.
And neither would I.
I didn’t step on that mat for a disqualification. I stepped on it to compete.
Out of respect for him.
Out of respect for the sport.
Out of respect for myself.
We FIGHT the right way.
I actually know my opponent in this video. A while ago, someone purposely tapped just to get him disqualified. I’ve also seen plenty of other times where people tap on purpose just to get a “win” in a tournament.
That’s not what this sport is about.
Jiu-jitsu is about skill, heart, and earning your victories the right way. Getting your opponent disqualified over something accidental especially when there’s no real danger isn’t the spirit of competition. When we sign up for tournaments, we should want to win because we were better that day, not because we gamed the rules.
We all love this art. Let’s protect it and compete the right way.

Depois de um mês sem treino, cuidando da minha lesão na espinha cervical, eu pude voltar a fazer preparação física, estou no meu 5* dia e hoje é meu 1 * dia de drill! supostamente eu deveria ficar mais 3 meses sem treino, porém vou começar a adicionar no meu tratamento a acupuntura, o que eu tenho fé que vai acelerar o processo. Em breve estaremos de volta!
