So many big wins in this one experience. Pancakes have always been something Hannah avoided. After so many exposures, she finally got to a point where she can tolerate a certain brand, which was already huge. Recently she discovered @ihop and got curious. When she saw the smiley face pancake, that was the one she wanted to try. That moment meant a lot because foods made to look fun or kid friendly were never enough on their own to make her feel able to try them before. She didn’t want whipped cream, so they made it with just strawberries and chocolate chips, which she likes. She also picked her own side, strawberries and bananas, another big win. Seeing her confidently ask for fruit was huge for us. When the pancakes came out covered in powdered sugar, we thought that there is no way she will be able to move past it, which is something that used to happen in the past. Instead, she took a deep breath, acknowledged that she was not happy about it, wiped it off, and kept going. The first bite was too chocolatey, so I suggested trying it with a strawberry. She doesn’t usually combine foods or use toppings, so the fact that she agreed was a really big deal. She liked it better that way, but still didn’t like the pancake. She ended up eating the strawberries and bananas and even had a piece of my bacon. This was such an amazing win all around. Her confidence really shined during this experience, and it’s incredible to see how far she’s come. @michelledorit
