❄️Ice dyeing + Mulberry dye❄️ Cooling down and staying away from the hobs cos here in Madrid it's starting to get hoooottt🔥🔥 (🌡️35°) The pot is now in the fridge and I'm leaving it there til tomorrow, we'll see how it goes🤞 . Ice dyeing with Jacquard Procion MX dyes is so much fun, and the process couldn’t be easier: first soak the shirt in soda ash, then cover it in ice, and then sprinkle dye powder on top. Let it melt and the next day you’ve got a masterpiece! @design.create.donate is rocking this process on sweatshirts and the results are so good. This may not be the popular opinion… But I always always always rack dye my geodes! As opposed to “muck” dying where you leave your items unattended in whatever in it sits in and let the ice melt on top. Rack dying allows for more accurate color placement and better saturation imo. With this process your keeping the item elevated about the “muck” on top of a rack. After the ice melts on top I flip my item over and repeat the same process while matching the colors on the previous side! I use tinfoil and clamps to create my “walls” for the ice, I’ve tried fancy cake molds but with foil I’m able to make my own whatever size I like with taller walls. To each their own Definitely adds some time but the colors make it worth while I always trust the muck…… just not for geodes 🙃 • • • • #icedyeing #craftersgonnacraft #tiedyeisart #fiberart #tyedye

Why ice? I get that question a lot! Instead of mixing dye powder into liquid and applying it to the tied fabric I pile ice on top, then sprinkle the dye powder over the ice. As the ice melts the powdered dye splits into different pigments and soaks through the fabric slowly. Some pigments travel faster and farther than others, resulting in an interesting marbled look.
