Salkantay Trek, Peru. The route to Machu Picchu that most travelers walk right past. The Incas worshipped the mountain it’s named after as a living god and called it “Savage Mountain.” The trail climbs straight past its glaciers to a pass at 4,630 meters, over 400 meters higher than the highest point on the famous Inca Trail. #machupicchu #peru #trek #hike #travelhistory
I just posted a full write-up on hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu on my Substack. It includes gear tips, lessons I learned, what I would do differently, and a full day-by-day breakdown. The link is in my bio. This was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Four days. 30 miles. Ancient stairs. Freezing mornings. And a sunrise over Machu Picchu that made every step worth it. No cell service. No shortcuts. Just the Andes, the trail, and a deeper respect for everything the Inca built. If you’re thinking about doing it, or just curious what it's really like, check out the full guide. Smile, or you're doing it wrong. #IncaTrail #MachuPicchu
Share this with your most adventurous friend 🫶🏻 50+ countries in and Peru is genuinely one of the most JAW DROPPING places I’ve ever been most people come here just for Machu Picchu and leave thinking they’ve seen Peru but that’s honestly like 10% of what this country actually is 😭 I did the Cordillera Huayhuash Trek with @high.expeditions near Huaraz, and it was the most beautiful trek I’ve done in my entire life! I don’t think I can get over it. if you’re planning this trip, here’s what you need to know 👇🏼 Best time to go is May to September when the skies are clear, the Andes are stunning and the Inca Trail is open and at its most beautiful Although, if you want fewer crowds and better prices, aim for April or October, you get nearly the same weather with SOO much less chaos!! And if you’re an Indian passport holder with a valid US, UK, Schengen or Australian visa, you can actually enter Peru visa free for up to 90 days which is a massive win Tell me , Which part of this surprised you the most? 👇🏼 follow @aakanksha.monga for more 🌍 [peru travel, peru from india, machu picchu travel, peru travel guide 2026, solo female travel peru, india to peru, best time to visit peru, inca trail, offbeat travel india, south america from india]

Some adventures are fun in the moment… and some you’d book again tomorrow. These are 10 we still talk about 👇 🇳🇿 Rafting Tutea Falls, New Zealand — We rafted down the world’s highest commercially rafted waterfall! And surprisingly, the river water was warm 🙌 🌺 Night snorkeling with manta rays, Hawaii — We did this at night off the Kona coast and it was one of the coolest experiences we’ve ever had. Comment MANTA and I’ll send you all the details! 🥾 Havasupai, Arizona — A multi-day backpacking trip that ends with some of the most unreal turquoise waterfalls. 🐻 Bear viewing, Alaska — We took a bear-viewing tour out of Soldotna and watched bears along the river eating salmon left behind from fishing. Such a cool way to see them in the wild. 🇮🇹 The Dolomites, Italy — We hiked in late September and There were definitely other people around, but the crowds weren’t bad and the scenery was unreal. 🇲🇽 Cenotes, Mexico — Swimming in cenotes around Tulum and Playa del Carmen was such a fun way to experience this part of Mexico. 🇨🇭 Via Ferrata Mürren, Switzerland — A roughly 3-hour route along the side of the mountain with a tightrope over a waterfall and an epic suspension bridge. One of our favorite adventures in Switzerland! 🇵🇪 The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Peru — We did the multi-day hike to Machu Picchu, and the journey there was just as memorable as Machu Picchu itself. Hiking past Inca ruins with almost no one else around at times was incredible. 🎣 Salmon fishing, Alaska — Fishing the Kenai River out of Soldotna was SO much fun, especially getting to experience it with the kids. ✨ Northern Lights, Alaska — We saw them in Fairbanks and pictures just don’t do it justice. One of those things you have to experience at least once. Which one would you pick first?
@_thetravelher takes us up into the clouds to Machu Picchu, Peru and it’s every bit as magical as you imagined 🇵🇪🏔️ Whether you hike the Inca Trail or take the train from Cusco, nothing quite prepares you for the moment those ancient stone terraces appear through the mist. It’s history, mystery, and jaw-dropping views all at once. Planning to go? Visit during the dry season (April–October), book your entry in advance, and don’t skip the sunrise, it’s worth the 4 a.m. wake-up! 🌄🦙 Would you trek or train your way there? 🛤️ 👣 creator: @_thetravelher location: Machu Picchu, Peru
Machu Picchu is actually 4 tickets, not one… First, decide if you are taking the train or if you are hiking one of the trek (the Inca Trail or Salkantay being the two most popular). If you are taking the train, make sure you have these four pieces scheduled: 1️⃣ Transport from Cusco to Ollantaytambo to get on the train. 2️⃣ Train tickets from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, the town beneath Machu Picchu. 3️⃣ Shuttle bus tickets from Aguas Calientes up to the entrance of Machu Picchu. 4️⃣ Your actual entrance ticket to Machu Picchu itself (which must match your passport, so don’t forget to have that ready). We’ll cover the hiking options in another video, but you don’t miss one of these important steps. Comment MACHU and we will send you our free guide to visiting this world wonder! #machupicchu #traveltips
3 flights, 1 train ride, 3 hours of driving on back roads, and an at times grueling 5 hour hike up a mountain on the Inca Trail led us to one of the new wonders of the world: Machu Picchu! . The sight is incredible. It’s an Inca City from over 500 years ago that was hidden in the Andes Mountains in Peru until “rediscovered” in 1912 by a university professor and adventurer. . If you get a chance to make the journey, it’s well worth it. I found the Peruvian people to be incredibly kind and hospitable, the food tasty, and the surroundings indescribably beautiful. And you don’t have to do the hike if you don’t want. There’s a bus that will take you, too. ❤️ . But be aware that the altitude is no joke and be careful with food choices. It’s very easy to suffer the consequences of not preparing and learning about how to avoid sickness in an area that is so vastly different than what it’s like in the States. . Thank you to my wife Amy @pediatrispin for letting me use her video! It’s much better than anything I filmed! . #machupicchu #plasticsurgeon
INCA TRAIL VS SALKANTAY TREK Planning your dream trip to Peru but can’t decide between the legendary Inca Trail and the epic Salkantay Trek? Here is a quick breakdown to help you choose the adventure of a lifetime: Inca Trail (4 Days): Perfect for history lovers who want to walk the original stone paths and experience the unforgettable, exclusive entrance to Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. Salkantay Trek (5 Days): Best for nature seekers craving dramatic, diverse landscapes, from snow-capped glacial peaks and turquoise alpine lakes to lush cloud forests and coffee farms. Planning Tip: The Inca Trail requires booking 6–8 months in advance due to strict permits, while the Salkantay Trek offers more flexibility for those planning with a shorter window. Whether you choose the historic path or the mountain route, your adventure begins with @tourleadersperu! #IncaTrail #SalkantayTrek #VisitPeru #MachuPicchuAdventure #TourLeadersPeru
"🥾 Most people opt for the Inca Trail in Peru to Machu Picchu but permits sell out fast OR maybe you don’t want to hike for 4 days. 🥾 ✨ Here is why the Lares Trek is for you ✨ 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️ Way less crowded than the Inca Trail: we didn’t pass even one group on our three day trek! It’s just you and the mountains. ⏳ It’s a 3 day trek with day one and two being shorter and not full days. Day two is only an hour and a half and the rest of the day you make your way towards Machu Picchu! 💺 There is an epic train to Machu Picchu so why hike there. 🤪 ↗️ The elevation is higher than the Inca Trail but you only climb up once and then you go downhill! In the Inca trail, it’s constant uphills and downhills. Honestly the lack of crowds had us 😏 our experience was amazing! We went with @gadventures and our group had only 3 people including us. We took plenty of breaks, we climbed up 500 m on day one, 1000m on day 2 and went down on day 3. The trail had the cutest dogs, llamas, and alpacas but also the best views. ⛰️🏔️⛰️⛰️⛰️ We got fed three course meals and our camp sites had toilets too! The meals were prepared with fresh ingredients and we had so much help on the hike! We’d pick out fresh eucalyptus from trees and just learn so much about life in Peru. We also stumbled on an archaeological site on our way down!" 🗺️ The Lares Trek 📸 @theadventuretwosome Check out the link in our bio to learn more about our Lares Trek active adventure! #gadventuers #bringontheworld #larestrek #peru #adventuretravel #grouptravel #visitperu
20 iconic hikes to do before your knees give up… 🥾🌍 (Follow @thepostcarddream for more bucket list travel inspiration 🌍) After hiking all over the world, these are 20 trails we genuinely think are worth travelling for — from overnight volcano climbs and high-altitude treks to some of the best day hikes we’ve ever done. A few things we’ve learnt along the way: 🥾 You don’t need to be a mountaineer. Plenty of these require fitness and determination rather than technical skills. ⛰️ Don’t underestimate altitude. EBC, Kilimanjaro, Rainbow Mountain and the Inca Trail can feel much harder than the distance suggests. 🌅 Timing can completely change a hike. Starting early/later often means cooler temperatures, quieter trails and much better light. 🎒 Not every bucket-list hike needs to take days. Preikestolen, Tre Cime, Seceda, Sentinel Dome and PR1 all deliver incredible scenery without committing to a multi-day trek. And if we had to pick just a few? Acatenango for the experience, EBC for the journey and the Inca Trail for the combination of scenery + history would be very hard to beat. We’ve included everything from relatively accessible day hikes to some serious bucket-list challenges, so save this list and work your way through it. 📌 How many have you done — and which hike should we add to Part 2? 👇 Bucket list hikes | Best hikes in the world | Hiking destinations | Multi-day treks | Adventure travel | Hiking inspiration #ThePostcardDream #HikingAdventures #BucketListTravel
“I’m in Peru! 🇵🇪   This is a bucket list moment for me. I had a slight obsession with ancient aliens (the TV show), and I have been keen on seeing Ollantaytambo and #MachuPicchu for a while.   But I may not have been ready for the hike, judging by the fact that I cared more about having matching outfits every day than thermals. 👀😂   Day 1 was pretty cruisey, but I couldn’t get over being applauded for just arriving at checkpoints. Kinda like, ‘good on you for not dying.’ I loved it. And the food was so good! The crew we have are fantastic.   For anyone thinking about it, the Inca Trail is a must.”   -Intrepid traveller Khanh (@khanhong) on our 15-day Sacred Land of the Incas trip. ✨
