Our TWENTY-FOURTH visit takes us to Federal Hall National Memorial in New York City! 🇺🇸 On this historic corner of Wall Street, the foundations of the United States government were first put into action. It was here that the nation’s first Congress met, where the United States Bill of Rights was introduced, and where George Washington took the oath of office as the first President of the United States in 1789. Though the original building no longer stands, today’s Federal Hall continues to honor the birthplace of American democracy. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits about the early republic, the creation of the federal government, and the pivotal events that helped shape the nation. Outside, Washington’s statue stands watch over the same steps where history unfolded more than two centuries ago. Today, Federal Hall reminds us that the story of American government didn’t just happen in grand halls and distant capitals — it began right here, on the streets of New York, where a new nation took its first steps. Liberty Hall at Discovery Park Union City Tennessee pays tribute to the courthouses or municipal buildings of that time period. The Great Seal of the United States hangs on the front of the building, and guests can still ring the tower bell originally used in Union City’s first public school. #walkwithhistory #historian #americanrevolutionarywar #americanhistorymuseum #discoveryparkofamerica
Is it just me or…. Does standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. give you chills too? Seeing the massive marble statue of Abraham Lincoln sitting in quiet strength makes you pause and reflect on how much one leader can shape a nation. 🤯 Lincoln led the United States 🇺🇸 through one of its darkest and most divided times. His leadership during the Civil War and his role in ending slavery changed the course of history. Through the Emancipation Proclamation, he helped bring freedom to millions and pushed the country closer to the ideals it was founded on—liberty and equality for ALL. 💯 Being there in person, reading 📖 his words engraved on the walls, and looking out over the Reflecting Pool toward the Washington Monument makes you feel the weight of history. It’s not just a monument… it’s a reminder of courage 💪🏼, sacrifice, and the power of standing for what is right. Travel 🧳 has a way of bringing history to life. Visiting places like this helps us understand the people and moments that shaped the world we live in today. Thank you @gfwcdeerfield and #GFWCFlorida for such an incredible experience with our Flight of Honor Mission to DC for the day. In two defining moments of the nation’s history, President Abraham Lincoln visited Independence Hall, first as President-elect and later as a fallen leader. On February 22, 1861, while on his way to Washington D.C. for his inauguration, Lincoln stopped at Independence Hall and gave a speech about defending the ideals of the Declaration. Four years later, on April 22, 1865, his funeral procession returned to the same place, where Union League members received his body on behalf of the city and more than 300,000 Philadelphians gathered to pay their respects. Taking the kids to Pennsylvania’s Valley Forge National Historic Park today isn’t what General George Washington would have recommended after 12,000 of his Continental Army troops spent the winter of 1776-1777 there. More than 2,000 colonists of European descent, Native American and Black soldiers died of disease, starvation and cold that winter, but when spring came, these idealistic Republicans continued the struggle for liberty. #springbreakideas #nationalparksusa #budgettrip #america250 @valleyforgepark
