Most people come to Rewa for the Arapaima, but what keeps them coming back is everything else.
These waters in Guyana are alive in ways that are hard to put into words.
Every bend in the river holds something different. Peacock bass smashing bait in the shallows. Payara hunting in the rapids. Wolf fish lurking below the surface.
Then there are the quieter moments. Arowana gliding just beneath the surface, Pacu moving through flooded forest, Piranha reminding you that even the smallest things here demand respect.
It’s not just a fishery. It’s a system. Layered, balanced, intact.
And that’s what makes places like this rare. Not just one species worth chasing, but an entire ecosystem worth protecting.

Rigging up a custom X reel for Indifly (@indiflyfoundation) at Yellow Dog Fly Shop (@yellowdogflyshop) in Bozeman. That backing will sure look good with the blue on the reel.

In celebration of #womenhistorymonth @ko.snowboarder and @eo_thesnowboarder invited Autumn Harry to speak to their @northtahoehs #flyfishing club. One of their goals in forming this club was to inspire #environmentalstewardship . They want their peers who fish & recreate on #laketahoe & #truckeeriver to understand how they impact folks downstream. And how humans interfere with the natural process (holds water in drought, reduces fire danger, soaks up extra water during storms, prevents erosion) of a #watershed through #dams diverting streams, logging, mining, railroads, erosion, invasive species, droughts, pollutants and floods.
@numu_wanderer is Kyra’s mentor. She is the first #paiute woman #flyfishingguide and @usatoday #womenoftheyear in #nevada . You can hire her to take you fishing on #pyramidlake at @kooyooepaa_guides . She is Numu (Paiute) and Diné (Navajo). We were lucky to have her mother Beverly join us. Not only is she a well-known protector of #indigenouswaterrights but she is from the same clan as my mom Ursula Knoki-Wilson.
One of my concerns about moving to #laketahoecalifornia was raising my kids far away from my family in Alaska (where they learned to give away the first fish they caught to their Elders) and the Navajo Reservation (where we learned how to weave rugs with a spirit line, a reminder to live in Hózhó or balance and harmony) and #indigenouswaysofknowing so I’m happy to find family out here and see these three generations working together.
Save this reel or share it …. Can you answer these questions?
Q1: What was the purpose of #derbydam built in 1903 ? It caused the extinction of #lahontancutthroat in 1943 or what anglers consider #freshwaterfishing trophies because they are the largest #trout (record size was 41 lbs! ) and the 2 million yr old #cuiui fish (only found in Pyramid Lake).
Q2: What’s unique about of the Truckee River #watershed ?
Q3: If the Lahontan cutthroat went extinct then what is @eo_thesnowboarder holding in his hand ?
Q4: Where do the Lahontan cutthroat spawn?
Q5: How do you purchase a license to fish at Pyramid Lake? Who collects the $? How are the funds used?
How do you offer help as an outsider?
We recently sat down with @mattshillingindifly , executive director of the @indiflyfoundation to discuss their role in this years @costasunglasses Marlin Fly Project and get a little behind the scenes on what goes into each of the Indifly Projects.
In order create long term impacts, there must be trust and understanding. Indifly knows that and is living it everyday as they bridge the gap between conservation goals through sustainable livelihoods in fly fishing, specifically focusing on indigenous communities.
Enjoy Season 2 : Episode 3 of the Trailer Talk Podcast, coming to you from the Parkway Theater Green Room in Minneapolis, MN. Enjoy!
