This is a snippet from my recent concluded performance at the #Internationalstorytellingfestival organized by @ttt_india in Hyderabad. A second edition of a story telling event where all art forms come and share a story through their respective forms. I choose drag, and I said the story of drag My performance was called #100yearsofindiandrag and as a part of which i acted multiple historic moments of the birth of drag and female impersonation in India. Narayan Shripad Rajhans, popularly known as Bal Gandharva, (26 June 1888 – 15 July 1967) was a famous Marathi singer and a stage actor. He was known for his roles in female characters in Marathi plays, since women were not allowed to act on stage during his time. Through this piece I wanted to bring attention to forgotten artist such as Bala gandharva who started the idea of femal impersonation which eventually became to roots of Indian drag scene #marathitheater #balagandharva #indiandragqueen #draginindia #indrag #beyondrupaul #indianqueerhistory #dragqueensofindia #indiandrag #desidrag #dragqueensofinstragram

On April 2nd 1984, exactly 41 years ago today, Queen released "I Want to Break Free" as the second single from The Works album. . 🌟Written by John Deacon, the song has three versions: album, single and extended. . 🌟The single was well received all over Europe and South America, where it was listed within top ten and regarded as an anthem of the fight against oppression. The single reached only the 45th position in the US charts, but reached number 3 in the UK and was certified silver with 200,000+ copies sold. . 🌟Most of the song follows the traditional 12 bar blues progression in E major. It has three verses with one bridge, no chorus and relatively little section repetition. . 🌟The song is largely known for its music video for which all the band members dressed in drag (women's clothes), a concept proposed by Roger Taylor, which parodied the long-running ITV soap opera Coronation Street. The second part of the video included a composition rehearsed and performed with the Royal Ballet and choreographed by Wayne Eagling. Whereas the parody was acclaimed in the United Kingdom, it was considered controversial in the United States and banned by MTV and other stations. . 🌟"MTV wouldn't play 'I Want to Break Free'," complained Roger Taylor.
