Menggen Taoli is an outstanding young horsewoman from the Xilingol Grassland in Inner Mongolia, China. Born in 2001, she grew up in a herding family in West Ujimqin Banner and began helping her family with herding on horseback at just five years old.
Just when we thought we’d seen everything around northeast China, my wife found another hidden gem. This time, just across the border in Inner Mongolia… a desert that none of us even knew existed.

🐎 This is what summer looks like on the Inner Mongolian grasslands. The 36th Inner Mongolia Grassland Naadam has begun, with five days of wrestling, horse racing, archery, horseback performances, music and dance. The first three are traditionally known as the “Three Games of Men”. 🏹 Despite their traditional name, the “Three Games of Men” are no longer exclusively male territory. More women are now taking part in these centuries-old sports, particularly horse racing and archery. 🏇 At this year’s opening ceremony, Mongolian actor Aruna made a dramatic entrance on horseback, galloping across the arena and waving to the crowds. 💭 Which Naadam tradition would you most like to see in person? 👀
🙏🐎 #china #explorechina #mongolia #innermongolia #chinaculture

RACING ACROSS THE STEPPE: WHERE SPEED BECOMES CULTURE This footage captures horse racing: numbered riders, horses driving through a sweeping turn, dust rising from the ground and open grassland stretching far beyond the course. Across the great Eurasian steppes, racing can be more than competition; it can also be an expression of community, landscape and inherited horse culture. The exact event, location, date, participants and result cannot be verified from the clip, so Hipismo Global will not attach unconfirmed names to it. Visually, however, the setting strongly recalls the equestrian traditions of the Mongolian world, where horse racing remains closely connected to public festivals and grassland life in both Mongolia and Inner Mongolia. The best-known example is Naadam. UNESCO inscribed the Mongolian traditional festival on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. Celebrated annually in Mongolia, it centres on three traditional sports — horse racing, wrestling and archery — and is inseparable from the nomadic pastoral culture of the Central Asian steppe. That tradition is not frozen in the past. In Inner Mongolia, Naadam gatherings and Mongolian-horse leagues continue to combine racing, endurance, horsemanship and cultural presentation. In 2026, Xilinhot staged a summer Mongolian Horse Super League featuring relay racing, a 15-kilometre endurance event and other traditional riding disciplines. 📌 Hipismo Global View: The meaning goes beyond the finish line. Races like these reflect a horse culture shaped over generations, where stamina, riding skill and the landscape belong to the same story. Formats may evolve and events may become more organized, but the sight of horses running across the steppe still carries a cultural weight that conventional racecourse statistics cannot explain. Today, I built a snow wall. Here in Inner Mongolia, the snow is falling heavily and temperatures are nearing minus 40 degrees-it’s freezing, so the wall helps block the wind! My friends were right, though-it actually collapsed!
