For children today, the internet is no longer just a screen. It is where they learn, play, create, connect, express themselves and discover the world.
And while the internet can open up incredible opportunities, it can also bring risks that children may not always recognise or know how to navigate.
As more of childhood moves online, there is one question we need to pause and ask:
Are they safe here?

The House just passed the KIDS Act, and a dangerous trade-off is happening behind closed doors.
Here’s what Big Tech and Washington aren’t telling you: Lawmakers are bundling controversial child internet safety acts like KOSA and COPPA 2.0 into a mega bill while quietly negotiating nationwide AI deregulation in exchange.
Trump wants to ban states from regulating AI, and in exchange, Republican lawmakers are asking him to sign off on child internet safety bills. But the problem is, the real accountability in these bills—like holding platforms to a “duty of care” to protect young users from harmful algorithmic designs—has been completely gutted by lobbyists. Instead, lawmakers are leaning hard into mandatory age verification.
And as @signal_app President @meredith._.meredith warns, age verification isn’t just about kids because it requires verifying identity, which effectively builds a mass surveillance infrastructure tracking everyone every time we go online. And we know why this administration wants THAT.
Trump and Senate Republicans are relying on complicated mega-bills so you won’t notice what they’re trying to slip past us. But the bill is not written in stone yet. It still needs to pass the Senate, so our dissent matters.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY:
- Call your Senators and tell them: “Don’t trade kids’ safety for corporate immunity.”
- @5calls (5calls.org) has a 2-minute pre-written script + direct line to Congress
- Or dial the Capitol switchboard directly at (202) 224-3121.
- And SHARE this video to wake people up to what’s happening.

How do you protect children online without compromising privacy? 🔐
One of the biggest debates across Europe today is how age verification can work without requiring users to hand over sensitive personal data. The EU’s age restriction app is designed to do exactly that — allowing users to prove their age without sharing details like their name or birthdate.
We’re talking way past just ticking an “I am 18” box. This is a massive shift in digital safety that’s starting in Europe but already sparking huge debates across the Indo-Pacific.
