📣 MAE Internship Series! 🚀 We’re spotlighting MAE students and their incredible summer experiences—from hands-on research to personal growth and career inspiration. 🎯 This Week’s Spotlight: Anderian Sawa, an Aerospace Engineering transfer student! Anderian brings a unique background as a first-generation college student and a UC San Diego transfer from community college. 💼 What He Worked On: Through the JT-SURF / D-ENTERPRISE Program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Anderian researched heat flow in the North Atlantic Ocean, funded by the Office of Naval Research. He was the only engineering student from UC San Diego in the program! 🧠 Biggest Lessons Learned: “I developed my academic and professional communication skills, connected with faculty, and pushed boundaries by diving into geophysics research far outside my major. I know these skills will strengthen my future work in aerospace engineering.” 💡 Connecting Fields: “Studying how heat moves through oceanic sediment gave me new ideas about heat transfer in aircraft materials—showing how research across disciplines can spark innovation.” 🌟 Career Impact: “My journey at Scripps, from an NSF-funded internship to JT-SURF, showed me the importance of collaboration and gave me confidence in applying research to real-world engineering challenges.” @ucsandiego @ucsandiegoengineering @anderiansawa @scripps_ocean @usnavyresearch #UCSD #UCSDMAE #InternshipSpotlight #EngineeringCareers #ResearchExperience
