The King has welcomed George and Amal Clooney to Buckingham Palace, where the joined winners and supporters of the @kingstrust and @kingstrustinternational ahead of the charity’s annual awards. The celebrity couple were there to honour Alice, winner of the Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment award. Alice, 19, from Kenya, has taught more than 100 other young women to make traditional beaded products to allow them to make a living. King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted a cultural reception Wednesday night in Manhattan in honor of the king’s charity, The King’s Trust. “It’s a wonderful opportunity, if I may say so, apart from any else, that at this reception, we can celebrate both my King’s Trust and the enduring cultural bond between the people of the United Kingdom and the United States,” the king said. The King’s Trust is a charity established by King Charles III in 1976 that supports disadvantaged youth by providing education, job training, mentorship and resources to help them build successful futures. “Over five decades, 1.5 million young people around the world have been supported by my trust … which demonstrates, I hope, time and again that with opportunity and encouragement, potential and latent talent truly knows no bounds once could you help develop it and release it,” he said at the event, which also included songwriter Lionel Richie, the charity’s first Global Ambassador. From Council estates to Royal estates… Back in 2003, I was just a young Steven Frayne on a council estate in Bradford with a head full of dreams and a deck of cards in my hands. I couldn’t get backing, most people thought I was just chasing illusions… until @kingstrust believed in me. They gave me a couple grand to help launch Dynamo: Modern Magic—and I started filming the journey that would change my life forever. Fast forward 22 years, and yesterday I had the surreal honour of performing magic for the King himself… back in my hometown. Full circle doesn’t even begin to cover it. To anyone out there with a big dream: don’t let anyone tell you it’s impossible. It takes graft, belief, and yeah… a little magic. The King helped me unlock mine—and thanks to his incredible Trust, thousands of other young people are getting the same chance. Long live the King.
